here are the results of the file compression
regards a 44.1Hz wav sample:
no compression : 72.1 KB
Zipped : 65.7 KB
RAR : 56.2 KB
here are the results of a MP3 file (128kbps)
no compression : 9,997 bytes
Zipped : 9,318 bytes
RAR : 9,290 bytes
now you all wont have to guess what does what
and how good it does it, this is exact figures,
ZIP & RAR are about equal on mp3 files,
but RAR is notably better at compressing wav.
wav compression for ZIP~
size x 0.91
wav compression for RAR~
size x 0.78
any questions ?

Yeah, what compression ratio did you choose? Normal, or best or what?

If u want to get optimal compression of sound without any data loss, like u will have with .zip or .rar, I suggest using Free Lossless Audio Codec FLAC. Its compression technique is similar to rar or zip in the sense that it is lossless, but because it is specifically developed for compressing sound, it will result in better compression (about 60% - 50% of the original .wav) Trying to zip/rar MP3's or WMA's is totally useless, since they are allready compressed to the maximum.
