If i had the money to buy me one of those, i'd no longer make drum'n'bass i think, but environmental-multi-dimensional-audio-reflectisism-in-the-great-big-city.
Recording trams (skkriiiieeeeee), footsteps (tappetatappetatap), shutting doors (doeff) and throwing tomatoes at that bloody annoying police helicopter (spleshhhh)

lol@soi ^^ , you got the right idea,
ive come across some amazing sounds in my life,
hit the washing mechine with ur knee and record it,
play it and half speed, not thats a gong!
also one time by the river when winter was ending
and i was out for a walk in the forest with my dogy
i lifted up some ice on off the surface of the river,
it was only frozen on top and at the point were there
were thousands of thin small ice crystles beneath
this small ice sheet.
when i stroked the bottom and they started to fall
down onto the other ice by the river's edge
it was the ULTIMET is ice crytle sound,
cause it was real ice crystels.
man if i only had a portable recorder....
man.... damn.
well if those two albums im working on sell
then mayyybee..
i also came across good sound from house hold pots
and lids. perfect closed high hat and rim shot style
sounds but not much to record with antil now.
but the recorder on my comp is like only for short
range indoor stuff.
(oh yes, i love to record, i love it very mutch)

HEY! you have a MD recorder!!!!???
i was looking for more info about those!
a guy told me the minis that you record with are
not re-writeable, but the company said they were.
he sais it has to be burnt.
what quality of MD sound can you record and
can it be edited and converted into pcm wav sound?
please please say, your the first person i ever met
who owns a MD recorder and me & my band
were real interested but didnt have the right
advice.

At mix-man-dan: you're so poetic!!
Is it that time of the year again? But you're absolutely right: we're surrounded by sounds: 24/24 -7/7, and we're all getting so used to it, that we loose our attention to this soundtrack of everyday life. Everybody should try for themselves to REALLY listen to everything that happens around you. I met a blind person once, telling me all these brilliant details on sound, and on how sound colours imaginary vision.
at emblem-x: check Biosphere's albums
I forgot the name right now but i have an old atmospheric dnbalbum at home, made by two guys who went for a 3-month trip to eastern europe. They recorded 40 md's with all sorts of sounds. They came back and simply made an astonishing album with it.
I'll let you know their name&title.

well i do have a mp3player, and it's got 20 gig
you can record with it, but the only problem is: it's full of music, so i cant record anything. well, i guess that's okay for me, because i like to hear music as well as making it
but i know a friend who's about to buy one of those, hes going to record stuff with it too.
But the problem with this is that you get so many background sounds, and you have to be really close to actually record something good.

Akura: you were there at the Icarus-Murcof concert @ Planetarium BXL, check this record out. Way different than what they played over there.

Don't think so, that's why it's sony Hi-Md for me
(hey, it rhymes) |
Phantom power is required for the microphone, not for the recorder. So look at your mic, if it needs phantom (so its a condenser microphone), your recorder needs to be able to provide it. (so no iPod for you.)
solution:
AKG C1000S, condenser mic with a possibility to add 9V battery inside it to provide phantom!
http://www.akg.com/products/powerslave,m...anguage,EN.html
It´s relatively cheap, good for miking up ambiences and been around long enough to be available in ebay as second hand.

So if your recorder providesphantom, good, just use it, if not, slot one 9V battery in and voila!
