make the most of each drum that you record.
you can get alot of samples out of one drum!
here are some ideas:
[1] light tap:
use a minimum amount of force when hitting the tom or snare but hold the mike close, then normalize the volume afterwords
[2] power hit:
NAIL THAT DRUM AS HARD AS YOU CAN!
but hold the mike farther away, this will sound alot difforent and most people who buy the sample CD will probably apreshiate that
[3] choked hit:
hold you'r hand tight against the surface of the tom or snare or what ever then hit it for a choked version of the smaple.
[4] dont forget these:
rim shots and brushes, you should maybe go buy a beaded brush also so you can get a more unique version of the hit.
[5] wet versions:
make a detailed special set of effects in a channle of your music or sound prossessing program, then save this channel state and load/use it on ever drum one for verious "wet" versions.

if the consumer is realy experienced with effects then he will know what effects you used and will probably not apreshiate it, but non-pro composers will probably love multiple wet versions so keep that all in mind! it will help you fill up you'r sample CD or archive faster and with more thurough depth.

oh i forgot to mention somthing.
heres a great trick for recording a good new crash.
this is somthing that only elite professionals do
celdomely so pay close attention...
besides the normal recording of the Cymbal or crash
you should take the crash off of the little thingy
that it is attached to,
then curve your wrist and cup it in your arm sort
of like a discus or a frizbee,
they throw it strait through your bay window!
make sure that you are atleast on a 2 or 3 story building so that the sound of the cymbal hitting the ground wont happen to soon and inturupt the recording.

what... you think thats dum?....
well look at nervana, they broke their instruments
and were they dum!?
no! they were smart! s-m-a-r-t!
lets all go break some shit! Big Grin
