So, there must be some things that a lot of DJ's do, and shouldn't.
I'll start with thisone: tunring up the bass to the max resulting in a lower max volume...

maybe not trying tricks.. buit repeating a good trick to often ( example --> pull back one plate when they are playing together ... ).. but okai everything in dj'ing is a try and learn process IMO

If we're talkin' about like 5-10 rewinds in one set, or the "I'm a big name, so my intro record has to be rewinded no mather what"-thingy, I agree... But I wouldn't mind to have a rewind in a set... still it has to be requested by the crowd itself...

Agree with DOC... one here and there doesn't hurt, if the plate is absolutely fucking amazing... but otherwise...

I agree that it _can_ work, I've got some mixes here where it does, but to be honest, most of the rewinds I experienced on parties were fucked up, spoiled the whole athmosphere and brought me to a full-stop. So in general - I don't like them, and prefer not to hear em, cause it's very rare that they actually work. I heard some rewinds on records where there was a 2/3 min intro which simply wasn't that interesting - and then you go for a drink and chill a bit and/or go to the toilet, or just stand there waiting for something interesting to happen. Even if the crowd requests it, I think it should be ignored if the record simply isn't suitable (I don't think they all are - now are they?). Anyway, the "crowd requesting" is also smth rather strange, most of the times i've seen it, it's the MC that thinks the record should be rewinded and tries to drag the crowd with him.
If a certain DJ/MC combination knows when to, works closly together, does it good and not too often - ok, no problem, it can be nice, but I absolutely hate it when an MC starts shouting for a rewind, on a totally inappropriate moment, and the DJ listens w/o concidering the fact that it might not work at all. Afaik, it's always a DJ/MC combo that gives you rewinds, (haven't heard of any DJ doing it on it's own), so both should be very well tuned in to each-other and know what they are doing, not some random first-time set of the 2 together, unless it really works between 'em - you always have exceptions.
Maybe it's just a bit my techno-history from the last 5-6 years that doesn't like to be stopped once shaking playing tricks on me. There breaks are considered to be long if they last longer than 10 secs, most of them are just 4 or 8 beats/1,5-4 seconds pauzes which don't really stop anything

Oh, sometimes they just request one when they're out of other things to shout into their mic... it's called BAAAAAAD MCing
Like last weekend, no? That one tune wasn't fitted for a rewind at all. Luckely the DJ ignored it every time
Even the "Iejn Twiej Droaj Vier!" was better than that rewind requesting

Hehe yeah - that MC was hilarious, well MC, actually I hope it was just some drunk dude that picked up the mic... Even the DJ had to smile when the dude started eeh.. mc'ing is'nt the good word, dno what I should name it. If he really tries to be an MC, he's definitly the worse MC EVER - no discussion. Even that wannebe at Step :: One was better

I agree
Beatmatching is VERY important. And most off the time I hear the smalest mistake :S no can do.
If it is 1 or 2 in a set, there is no problem, but 1 mistake in every rekkid u mix is allot to much!
It aint always THAT easy tho... specially not on party´s where sometimes, the monitors are badly placed, or monitors just have to play to loud or ... etc etc...
and even at home I make lil mistakes sometimes (sometimes even big ones) U can never predict a rekkid. Once its heavy and u really have to PUSH it forward, other times its bend a litle and u hardly can touch it or it spins twice as fast in no time. Or it just starts skipping. And sometimes, u just can´t hear wich rekkid to speed up/slow down.
Its not always THAT easy, even for a experienced dj...
