anyone know how to make rave stabs?
for example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O91DJFvY90A
the stab is introduced at 0:38.
is the 'da-da-da-dadada-da' pattern at the start a stab as well?
also, anyone know how rave was made? I'm interested to know, since the software and advanced hardware we have today wasn't around back then

Just use some synth that has nice saw sounds and detune them.
(Sawer from Imageline does a good job, but as mentioned above there are dozens of others that are good, some are even freeware)
Then use pitch bend, distortion, or cut off automation to get the wicked stuf going.
Make a lot of variations while you are at it and make your own sample pack, this will allow you to be pickey and add variation later on.
Always keep the sound making projects for future repeats, I forgot to save one of my better setups for making sounds and I still regret it.

The sound he's talking about doesn't sound to just basic detuned saws to me, but more like a hoover that doesn't pitch over time.
