Musically, Ecuador producer Alvaro Espinoza has a penchant for probing the depths of some pretty dark
places. The producer also known as Cutkachi attempts to merely document the feelings of fear
associated with exploration of the unknown. On his debut release for Soulstep, Cutkachi does just that
with this two-pack of cerebral and shadowy numbers.
Out Space, a creeping drum cadence and heavy, heavy sub-bass low end set the tone for this cold and
lonely trip to the outer reaches of space. Spooky synth overlays, tonal bells, and an almost-deafening
echo of the unknown. Out Space reminds listeners just how deep-and
dark-space really is.
Similarly, B-side Ihna is no nearer the sun than its predecessor, the backdrop of Ihna is a massive black
wall of the unknown. With little more than a short break of silence, the kick-snare of a tribal 2-step drum
line emerges from the shadows, giving a sense of structure and space to the darkness of this soulseeking
trip to the spirit world.
