Qualmsound is a producer hailing from Manchester. A former rugged grime junkie known as‘Miley’, Miley’s talent was recognized by artists like Hypes, Blizzard, and Shifty—respected members of the Manchester grime scene as well as artists up and down the country.
He quickly made a name producing rough and rugged cuts for many of Manchester’s high profile MC’s. After featuring on Subdepth Records Depths EP with two future garage tracks and with a new take on bass, he re-branded himself for the second decade of the new millennium as Qualmsound.
On his Debut release for Soulstep Records, Qualmsound works with a minimal palette, letting each brush stroke barely graze the next, creating sparse and haunting soundscapes. Working with long intros and meager movements, Qualmsound bring you two haunting head-nodders.
Breathe is reminiscent of Timberland, a post-millennial slice of future R&B. A somber
vocal sample wails in the distance over warm drum pads and finger snaps.
Ethereal is exactly that, incorporating light tabla hits and the tastiest of warm bass lines
on the low end while the slightest of synth strokes creates just the lightest hint of melody.
