I come from UK and here people are always either like "our scenes the best in the world" or "stuffs so much better in Europe." Obviously we have some of the most well known producers/djs/mcs here but it seems to me that this is changing pretty fast(concord dawn, pendulum, teebee etc). Is it mostly Free-parties or do you guys get all the big corperate arena nights too? Where are the best events? loadsa people on this site mention Ghent loads. Are the free-parties mostly outdoor style things or are squat/warehouse events as common. Just interested as I have been planning to come over to central europe for years and looks like I might actually be able to make it happen this year, wanna make sure Im at events that are worth the travel/expense. Im just so sick of either going to the same squats with the same faces every week or paying a fortune to hear the same old tunes, only dnb night in england that i can still be bothered with is Renegade Hardware and even thats not what it once was(although I admit I havn't been far north for too many events just to scotland a few times) Sorry if this question been asked loads but Im new to this site.

Personally - I don't like the "big corporate" parties, I'd rather prefer a small party, like most parties we have here in Belgium...

Used to be into techno, but that got waaaay to commercial, it's fucked over completely by the big events like I love techno, Antwerp is burning, ... the people coming to these parties are there only as an excuse to take drugs and get drunk - most of them don't care about the music at all, you start seeing fights and the athmosphere is completely gone - which in the end results in degradation of the complete style... Only very few DJ's manage to advance in such environment, and the main style gets boring - and it's no fun anymore to go to such a "party" simply because of the fact that the public wants the popular tunes. One of the techno-DJ's I highly respect is T-Quest - who dared to play break-beat tracks last I Love Techno I went, resulting in an almost empty room, that was the only time I had a great time there, so I said the whole techno thing goodbye.
In the end - it's the same thing for every style, Trance also went that way (very quickly because it was more accessible).

Ghent & Bxls both have a rather large DnB scene, which is still pritty underground-oriented. Most parties are organized by "the scene" itself, there aren't really that much "commercial" dnb parties, there's Starwarz, in Ghent, and another one somewhere in Bxls - lost the name for a moment, but you don't really notice any real commercial push. A lot of things that are organized are very local I noticed. A lot of youth-organisations organize a dnb party once in a while, mostly with local - totally unknown dj's.

Most free parties here are open-air as far as I know, and the others are usually not that high-priced. If you look for the best events here in Belgium - just check the party-board Smile

not to forget there are a lot of "corporate" parties in which dnb rooms or dj's are included nowadays
no real commercial pushing dnb only parties mostly, but it is included, ... will probably be excluded as fast as it came tho :S (negative point of view, i know, but hey, it can only get better right Tongue )
apart from that, lots of parties, some people who are really pushing the belgian music too, with parties and releases. and a whole network of dj's, ... u often get the same, but hey, belgium ain't that big ... (*thinks of: it's a small world after all ...*) so ...

problem i got nowadays is that the crowd is lazy, brussels people never wanna come to other places ... same for ghent people etc etc ... cause they all think their scene is the best ... i'm from brussels myself, but didn't get into drumnbass here so i've been around checkin parties too, and the people i meet there that i know that aren't from the local scene are mostly the same, creates a very friend-oriented, and friend2friend-connection-based atmosphere, it's great, but it also came with the dj-politics-problem people sometimes talk about here ...
...

but uh, it's too much to nag about, with the right people, the right mood and the good music, it's always a good party innit Big Grin

why don't u come over sometime and check out for yourself
train from brussels come and go is about 100 euros Big Grin

There is SOME scene where I live, but i'm partying as much in BXL than in the rest of Flanders Smile )

should precise as well that, while coming back from nice parties (i.e. 10 days off, skool of hardknocks, step one last weekend etc) i'm never the only junglist sitting in the train back to BXL... so are always a few nuttas, too. Big Grin
