DJ BREAK (DNAudio, Eastside, Commercial Suicide, No U Turn, UK)
Acquiring a love for the breakbeats through jazz and funk records,Break learned to play the drums at a young age, taking the piano along the way, and taking the turntables at the age of fourteen. As a young musician with a wide range of influances Break looks to push the barriers in whatever he is doing. Crisp beats, heavy bass and strong melody are stable marks of his productions making him a firm favourite with a variety of the scene DJs.
Break hooked up with the DNAudio crew back in 2001 after meeting Squire (the label owner) through mutual friends. Since then he has played an imported role in the labels expansion, working clossely with Silent Witness in developing a fresh and devastating new sound. First product of this collaboration was DNAudios first release in early 2003: Psychic Killers/ Shadows. What followed was a release on Nicos legendary No U Turn Records: Higher Rates/ Total Recall and a collaboration with Squire for the second DNAudio release: Filth/ Rooted.
Break caught the attention of different well known labels and what followed was a bunch of great releases: A-Sides was quick to sign Breaks debut for Eastside Records Cocktail on the East Side Jamz vol. 2 EP. His solo release Sticky Situation/ Juice it followed in no time. After that came the superb The Breakout EP on Eastside. 2004 saw the release of Positive-Negative/ Hearing Voices on Klutes Commercial Suicide, Objective (Wildlife) on the Invaderz Transmissions 2 EP, Breathless/ Deliverance (with Hydro) on DNAudio and Dream Sequence (with Hydro) on Quarantines Holding Room EP.
The future for Break includes releases on Cause 4 Concern their new label, Teebees Subtitles label, new tracks for Eastside and Commercial Suicide and a new EP. All comming soon...
SAIKO, RHUMBLE & MC LOTUS (Hydra Crew)
The Hydra Crew is based in Brussels and are the promoters of the Next Level and Caliente nights.
Saïko originally started out mixing hiphop. After going to his first drum & bass party, he switched to mixing drum & bass, but he still listens to a variety of styles of music, which comes across in his mixes. His rapport with the crowd is second to none, and he is usually seen dancing and grooving as much as the people on the dance floor! He's also very responsive, changing his sound to adapt to the audience. His sets are trance-influenced, rolling, dark journeys into dance floor d&b, jungle breaks, old skool and more. However, he can mix a variety of styles, and is as happy playing a chilled out set for a relaxed party, but of course he also loves to play very upfront dance floor tunes for the clubs.
Rhumble first hit the turntables around 1995. After years of following the evolution of the dance music, from the acid-house days to breakbeat-hardcore, he felt that it was time to reveal his own sound. Already involved in the early underground jungle and d&b movement in Brussels, as part of the Brussels Breakbeat Convention (BBC) he made his first DJ outings on Brussels-based radio stations like Campus and Panik. In the early days, Rhumble played at underground locations like Bulten or Le Sud, but most regularly played at squats and free parties alongside DJ Öhn and Frambo. Rhumble is a truly versatile DJ, who has achieved a smooth technical style in his approach to vinyl. Depending on the venue and time of set, Rhumble can play funky, Latino-flavoured sets, through to the hardest, darkest sound with touches of breakcore.
Lotus is an MC, singer, promoter and journalist. UK-born, she now lives in Belgium, and plays out regularly with Miss Elorak (Stress Da Bass), and also alongside Rhumble and Saiko. She is not a typical chatting MC, as she likes to bring in influences from jazz, soul, Indian music, hip hop and more. She started classical music studies in the flute, cello and music theory as a child, and often sang in church alongside her mother (!). Later she was involved in choirs and musical theatre, while gaining an interest in electronic music. Now she studies Indian classical vocals in Brussels with composer Daniel Schell.
SUBMERGENT (Artex Model #1, Sincretic)
Although Submergent sounds like a newcomer, he is already 7 years up tight in the belgian drum 'n' bass scene and his game is getting notorious. He started out as John Jay Left Out and has always kept true to the meaning of his original name. Be it rough or soft material, old or new, Submergent seeks the deeper edge of drum 'n' bass and plays out a non conformistic selection in his very own way. He's one of the most outspoken dj's in Belgium when it comes to styles and hits the head as hard as the feet. Be ready to be taken from Motown through arctic landscapes into inner space turbulence.
