This is my first drumfunk tune so please don't complain that it isn't a dancefloor smasher. It has a strong jazz influence without sampling any records. It contains 280 edits and 78 unique automation objects, some of them get repeated of course. It took me 3 weeks to make it.
Influences are Source Direct an Photek.

Can hear the photek influence without being a rip off. I'm on a laptop so I can't hear the bass but everything else sounds great. Love all the break manipulations. Has a real dark photek/cylon vibe.

I fucking love this. Fucking LOVE this. I can definitely see the inspiration in this from Source Direct. You definitely ought to create more tunes like this man, that old school sound. You are fucking genius at it. Tons of subtle variety in this, love that. The one and only thing I would suggest is layering one more type of drum beat over it, however its not completely necessary. Source Direct I know uses fairly minimalistic drum patterns. Keep at this man, I would sincerely buy this.

My only complaint is the drums could come forward a touch, but its only minor.

0:35> love it!! Love the edits and the slight phaser effect

can agree with brucifer- drums could be slightly more forward in the mix would make it more in your face seeing as its the drums that drive it

kick and bass are very nice Smile

keys sound too loud to me
flute @ 2.28> is great!

liking the reverse edits too.
03:10 is dark as you like!!

A real letdown on here is the sound quality.
I uploaded a 256k mp3 file which sounded good. The 112k version on here sounds "irritating" to me.

Dub Bananez' track made me physically jump when I played it!! lol
This track just surprised me with its level of slam and drive... no bad thing tho.
I like crunchy drumfunk Big Grin

I personally see (hear?) nothing wrong with a strong punchy sound for DNB..
Even more so if the tune has elements that lack in dynamics anyway..
As long as when dynamics are present it also hits the sweet spot then im happy.

it just grated when you made the 'loudness wars' comment on one of my recent tunes without any further explanation.

I'll continue to master very close to 0db for as long as commercial tunes do the same. As long as there is no artifacting or slight clipping its all good.

I tend to master quite close to 0dB but I try not to kill the mix with overly compressed sounds. I'm an old skool kind of person so I do believe in semi natural dynamics and even silence (see tune "Alien Arrival").

Yesterday I got some tune to judge that made the winamp spectrum analyzer go blank because all bars were up 90% of the time. That sucks.

In the specific tune you refer to (24ct Dub) you have - in my opinion - been pushing the limits of loudness, this is especially noticeable in the 1:40 --> 2:00 area. When this would be thrown onto a big rig it would probably hurt people's ears.
Other than that your tunes need little to no feedback as you "know your stuff", again in my opinion.

Proper old skool vibe man, love the sub bass. So warm! Nice arrangement, got a bit bored after 3 mins, I'm just a melody freak! Nice tune man, good mixdown, nice effects too.
