Please check out my new track 'Trumpetastic!' and post your comments here!
Howdy! I made this before 'Getting There...' but its taken me longer to master! I've been told that the sample has been rinsed, but I can't ever remember hearing it and I've been DJ'ing DNB for the last 12 years! Anyways, I'm totally happy with it, it's nothing too complex I just wanted to get the mixdown and EQ'ing nailed so everything sounds good and layers well across the spectrum. It is my first tune, hope you enjoy it.

I've just listened it over, geeez I think converting to mp3 from WAV has changed it a little, bass synth is a little forced, so please forgive me! I'll sort it

intro is a bit long and boring, could use some variation. i must admit that sample does sound EXTREMELY familiar but i cant put my finger on the tune ive heard it. nothing wrong with using a sample thats been rinsed anyway, producing is about you, not your audience. it would matter if you took it commercial but thats a different ball game. anyway, on with criticising the track.
your drum patterns dont seem to fit well together. i find one of the most important things in electronic music production is choosing the right drum samples that sound natural together and fit well together on the sound spectrum. Im finding that your snare and hats are a little too hissy and although they may fit well together they dont sound natural with all that white noise. maybe you should try a different sample pack. also your hats sound very unnatural and 'cut short'. try playing with the amp envelope or even a little reverb to help them join up and roll a bit smoother. same with your bass synth and sub, but thats not as much of a problem as it can often be a desired effect.
pretty good first attempt, keep at it and youll be producing smashers in no time.

The first sample I thought off when seeing the track name was the one you started with.
You treated the sample in a way that sounds a bit irritating. In fact the whole mix sounds harsh (e.g. snare sounds as if it has a lot of peaks).

Yea, I agree with the hissyness/high end issue. I'm not really digging the snare and the hat that sounds similar to it. it all sounds a bit forced as well... like the sounds are competing against eachother instead of nicely flowing. It could be partly due to the conversion you were talking about though. All in all it's pretty sweet though, you're on the right path!

trumpets sound awesome. drop at 1.32 comes kinda surprising, but when the trumpets enter again it sounds great. really like the melodies you put together in there. not really in love with the drums thou, snare&hats sound too "white-noisish" imo, drums sound too "technical" for me, missin some "life". but still, its a nice tune, mate
