errr there is this really awesome .wav file that i would like to manipulate. Reason's subtractor uses .zyp files.

anwyay, i have a .wav to .mid converter, but is there a way i can convert to .zyp so i can have manipulation with reason?

or just in general, if you have a midi keyboard hookup, how can you take a sound in a .wav file and allow for midi manipulation?

A wav to midi converter?? Confused

That's quite impossible, they are two completely different things...

Yeah, if that was possible...

Never heard of the zyp format either, must be a Reason only thing, and I don't use Reason...

What are zyp files for?

wav / midi / zyp files have nothing to do with each other...

wav is audio
midi is control
zyp is the format in which patterns are saved for Reason's subtraktor synth

i'm probably describing it wrong, i mean to take a .wav sound and treat like its a note on your keyboard. reason's nn19 does just that

There's a workaround solution to this. I haven't searched the net for possible wav to zyp converters, but here's what you can do.
* Use your NN-19 or NN-XT, and load your really awesome wav in it.
* Use your Malstrom
* Press TAB to switch to the backpanel-view of your modules.
* Connect the audio-outputs of the sampler to the audio-inputs of your Malstrom.
* Make sure there is a connection between the audio-outputs of the Malstrom and the mixer.
* Behave like Beethoven on your midi-keyboard or Picasso on the piano-roll, abuse the Malstrom-presets wisely and let me know what you think... Bigup

Ps: you can't do this with the Subtractor, it has to be the Malstrom. I hope you have Reason2

Hmmm. I played around with it a bit, but you can only switch presets, change frequencies. You cannot further modulate your sound with the LFO's, OSC's,... and that's a real pitty.

if u use the NNXT you have great freedom in sample spreading over the keyboard (the interface ain't that great tho) and sample layering etc etc. and you have great number of modulation, pitch, volume etc.-envelopes you can configure
and if you wanna go extreme with the sounds do as said before, run it through the malstrom, dunno if it's possible to run it into substractor, never tried that before.

but i think the main thing you're looking for is what they call a 'sampler' Wink so --> NNXT all the way !

I know this thread is old, but I really need someone to answer this question.

I know next to nothing about music, so I just basically want to use/obtain some Vocoder Carrier Wave files in Wave format.

The only problem is that I can't find any carrier signals around here and the ones I DID find were in .zyp compression.

I want to convert .ZYP to .WAVE, but I know nothing about Reason's Subtractor or whatever.

I need help. Frown

zyp to wav easy if you have cool edit... just play zyp through reason and record through cool edit. or any program you have that has a record function... doesn't have to be CE
