Hi,
been lately triing to synthesise those 'kinda oldkool' rave sounds, like e.g. the new dom&roland, i 4 an i, the intro: audio-link
3th one from the top, a-side...
Used to be a trademark of Total science, but lately...
anyway, thougth it where high-passed reeces or something, but i don't get that 'eery' sound.
the so called 'rave-pads' in any of my synths sound nothing like it eiher.
anyone has got some clues

nobody knows? or has any ideas in what direction to search?
or is this question so stupid it doesn't deserve an answer?
only thing i found was a bit vague: set osc to multiple (so 1xosc becomes 4xosc,... didn't know they could do that) detune them all differently to create this 'chorus' like effect...
can someone explain this? sounds like 4 different osc detuning, a lot imo... and is this explanation in the rigth direction? haven't found a 'multiple osc' button yet, but will try it later

Not good at this either... I stick to the Rave sounds (Hoovers) from the samplepack on this site or on VSTi's
Not sure what sound exactly you mean, I couldn't listen to the track...

dom, 9th from the top (cool track too). don't wanna use any samples, heard enough 'total science-rips' already.
btw this sound=hoover? aha, then i learned something i guess
Maybe searching 'how to synthesise hoover' will get me a bit further.

Yeah, but I don't have Real Player
Tried finding it on Slsk too, but no succes yet
A lot of my hoover samples come from old skool house tracks, not Total Science

oh yeah, the dom thing is on 'chronology' ep, just released last friday
anyway, wanna get home and try some stuff out. will let you now if i get anywere near it (which i fear for very much

Finally got the track, and they're old skool hoovers indeed. They sound quite like the ones on Nasty Django - King of FFM... I suppose they are Juno indeed...

Yeah, PCP was great!
I've got this Fankfurt house compilation from 1993 where there's lots of this stuff on it
Sampled the shit out of it, some really nice hoovers

The classical rave sound is based on an organ sound, try messing with that. A good starting point would be a Hammond organ sound, put a fast tremolo or leslie effect on it or put an LFO on the VCA.
Then it's just a matter of finding the right chords
