When making tunes use the best quality samples you can find; preferably 16 or 24-bit wav.
When making tunes a 44100Hz mixer samplerate should be enough.
When rendering tunes 320 kb/s mp3 should be enough.
When you have to send a tune to a record label for release - 16 or 24-bit wav. Ask the label for details.

That...

If you use some mp3 samples or very low quality samples it will be clear to your audience that you made a mess of it.
If the label wants 24 bit, then give them 24 bit.
Not that it will lift your tune to unknown heights or anything.

Usually it doesn't matter all that much, 192kps or 320kbps will probably only make minor difference in probably a minority of the cases. (Have you actually heard a difference when both qualities are mixed in your playlist?)

MP3 vs Wav, yeah, there is a difference; technically the content is indeed more complete than mp3, but yet again can you hear a difference? If you aren't going to be processing the file any more, then there is little reason to use the big-ass wav's; and even when you're selling mastering services I think 320kbps 32-bit floating point files will often be much more usefull than the wav files.

If it's a finished product, and you can't hear a difference, only logistics can still make a difference for me; that is, not having a huge-ass file without real benefits.

think you will struggle with 24bit out of reason...
as I understand it; Reason's sound engine is 16bit only.

nope. it gives you the option of a 24bit export.

as for the original question just export the song at 24 bit and at least 48kHz.

some say it'll only end up as 16 bit/44kHz but if you export it at a higher rate, it will be then dithered/down sampled by someone (possibly mastering engineer) with better equipment to do so.

So the end result will end up sounding better

*edit* do you know what medium the song will be released on?

I stand corrected Ghost. Tongue

Is that new to R4/5? Last time I used reason could have sworn there was only a 16bit option.. been a while so my memory is a little fuzzy.
