This synth effect is used in so many dnb tracks. You know the one, leading into the drop where a particular synth sound starts low on the keyboard then rises in pitch to create some tension prior to the drop. My question, how do you do it? I can kind of get it by using pitch bend, drawing in a controller for the pitch bend to rise over a period of time. Is this how it is done? Or can you somehow route an oscillators output to pitch and control it with an lfo? Any help appreciated. I am using massive.

that depends. If you want the synth to rise, you can use the pitch bend wheel and make an automation of it. If you don't know how to make an automation like that, youtube it.

If you want the NOISE to rise, which happens way more often, you have to automate the frequency to rise.

In both cases you need to use automation though

cheers, automation is how i been doing it, but i thought there was another way. I have an old mc202 that is half dead and i am sure that when i played a note i could get the release really long and it would rise for ages. That was a long time ago and cant remember how i did it.

Of course, you can do this with setting the synth to rise up constantly as a part of the synth algorithm, but that would be a real pain in the ass to do (and can teach you several hundred wonderful things about synthesizing sounds Big Grin ).
