just won a pair of yamaha hs80m's on ebay, my first pair of monitors! am i gonna need some kinda audio interface as well to hook em up to my mac? read somewhere that you can do without, but it might add noise etc and wont sound great

well 1st off congrats on them yams m8.
you can just hook em up straight from the pc/laptop via "phat jacks to small jack" adapter,
and then wait till you have the cash to go xlr connection/audio interface.

Im thinking you need 3 1/2 mm connector to 2 x 1/4 inch connectors and you are set to go. Then save the cash to get some kind of soundcard. I use a Native Instruments soundcard which is great for the job, as I got massive as well for free

cheers, cant wait to get em setup. no more mixin on headphones for me. was lookin for monitors upto 5 or 600 quid range, won these for 230!! and theyre almost brand new.
