Anyone got any advice on making good dark pads to suit, well, dark drum n' bass? Thanks.
Although I prefer advice from fellow Reason users, I don't mind advice from users of other software...
Making synth. patches is quite slow for me at the moment, due to my keyboard being a spaz...
Take this tune. Would the sounds be possible with Reason?
[I don't want to use (too many) samples in my tunes, because to me that isn't original; it's just putting someone else's sounds together and calling the result your own.]
Google this: "paulstretch"
it's a tool that can make a pad out of any sound, use some clangy metallic sounds and be surprised.
If you just load samples and play them I can understand your opinion but you just need to change samples and do new things with them.
Other than that darkness can be reached by using low pitch and selecting the right sounds.
Pads are more interesting when you layer a couple of them, it just generates more movement and texture.

I use synths, samples, stretched samples, whatever comes up. I don't start with a big plan, it's all just one big happy accident :-)
I even use looped and hi-pitched bass samples and what not.

Please note that this is suitable only for extreme time stretching (e.g. if have a melody of 3 minutes and you want to listen it in 3 hours). - I'll see you in three months! lol.
Thanks!

Not that much, a 2 second sample can be stretched to 8-10 seconds or more.
