So yeah, we got Project week in 3 weeks, aight? And I am doing a project about the evolution of DnB.
So, I thought I'd get the pros here who's been in the scene since the beginning, to help me out with this, so when the week comes, I could write my Power-Point the first day, and use the 3 other days on making small samples of some DnB choons, which I am to show the class. So yeah, this would definitely be the place to suck up some info.
So, this is what I need:
(Wikipedia is good, but not good enough!!)
*When was DnB (Jungle at first, offcourse) born? (I got that, 1992)
*Where, and HOW was it born?
*Who was one of the most known artists at that time?
*How did it happen, that Jungle music became sort of "associated" with criminalty (Thats what I heard)?
*When did producers "create" the DnB genre?
*What 'instruments' were used to produce DnB at that time?
*When did producers start to use the PC for production?
*How did it spread?
(I think there is more, will update.)
Alright, I will also need some choons from the early days. Like, one from 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, and I will pick the ones from 2009-10.
Since I know Ciaran is into some of the early stuff, I would be glad if he could get me some of the 2000-04 stuff.

You might think I am trying to get you to do my homework for me, but I have to translate all the bollox into Danish, too. Reason I am posting, is cause I think I'd get atleast a B for this project. And that we're all passioned about DnB, and we support each other, am I right?!
There is like.. NOONE from my class that likes DnB, in fact they hate it, some of it haven't heard it. I am the only Head in my part of the country Denmark, so I am the one risking my hide on this!

Yeah, at a club in London I believe. Yeah, I've heard that Goldie is the most recognized one

DnB is also being used in action moves / games, such as Need For Speed, people just don't notice it, hahah! xD

guess when reggae was used in dnb, and reggae is asociated with ganja. (cause reggae is soo fucking good when you've smoked a blunt believe me

here's a sorta order...
House > Hardcore > Jungle > Drum n' Bass.
I think Hardcore started out in the early 1990s, Jungle in 93/94 and drum n' bass maybe in '96 or '97? I haven't got a fakkin' clue when dNb started out.
A good label to look at is Moving Shadow, they started out releasing Hardcore and later in the decade tuned to drum n' bass. If you listen to a Moving Shadow tune, the style of the vinyl indicates what the scene was like at the time of its release. For example, 'Ryme Tyme - T Minus' (2000) shows how drum n' bass was turning to the Techstep sound.
Do you know about the Amen break? This is a break commonly used in Hardcore and almost always in Jungle, and sometimes in dNb. It is taken from 'The Winston Brothers - Amen Brother'. That's important; it shows how the emerging styles of music were (and still are) influenced by other pieces of music, that they blend things together to create a new sounds.
You should look at a guy called DJ Hype, he started out in the Hardcore scene, then turned to Jungle and finally drum n' bass. He also started his own label, 'True Playaz' I think???

umm, I think the early styles were made with crappy computers (Atari or something like that) and synthesizers... you'll notice that Jungle tends to stick to the square wave). They would have had pretty basic music programs and used reel-to-reel for recordings.

If you want to get into more new school styles like skullstep, darkside, fourth step, you'll need to do additional research - but this is a good website if you want to learn the roots of the music.
