found a pitch of time to boot up FL again last weekend. The thing I have in mind is some kind of flowing bassline. not sounding like notes after eachother but more flowing from one tone into another. I got this sound I would like to use out of the vb-1 bass plugin (included with some cubase version). first prob is the attack volume is still too high, and second is that I don't really know how to program a flow, tried with the slide function in the piano roll, but didn't seem to work.
Does anyone understand what i'm trying to do & if so know how to do it?

The attack of the VB-1 is quite hi indeed, maybe you should chose a different synth to start with?

I think you mean a bassline that has pitch bends from one note to another? not sure if this is what you mean but that can sound quite flowing..

I don't know FL or vb-1, but this is how i achieved it in reason, i think it's similar for every synth:
draw the notes and overlap them a bit (1/64th or so),
in the overlapping region draw some pitch automation,
maybe adjust the pitch bend range if it goes to quick or so,
make sure your polyphony is set to 1.

As for the attack being too high, doesn't it work if you just set the attack time higher in your envelope?
If you can't set enevlopes etc on this synth you use, maybe it's better to just play a note and make a wav file from it, load this into a sampler that has envelopes and pitch bend and the likes.

Hope this helps!

in fruityloops u can click on a little triangle in the upper left corner of the pianoroll, you can make note slide with this tool.

otherwise i'd think draw the nots a bit over each other and play with the portamento, but i'm not sure if this is right...

I found the answer, it's quite simple actually. just use the pianoroll on a sample/instrument/whatever (one of the advantages of FL: same interface for all) and then put the slide (thingie with the triangle) during a note, not after it as I was doing at first, quite simple once u know it.

On looperman.com i read an article that said many DnB producers take a hard kcik... then stretch it out with time strech real long... (making sure to cut out any pops at the end) Then they add a filter and some distortion.. and wooaaallaa. You have spaggetti with a side of cheddar.

Not every vst plugin supports FL piano roll slider. For example Native Instruments FM7 doesn't. So if you want to manage a slide from one note to another without placing an extra note (smooth slide) [did i get you right? Smile ], you have to use an event editor with a pitch bend control of your plugin (almost every one supports it). With the pitch bend you can controll every moment of your bassline/whatever. Click on the up-left corner of the plugin window -> Events editor. There you will see
every control you can draw events for.
Hope it was helpful. Big Grin Big Grin

yeah, adjusting the portamento is exactly what you'd want to get the notes to flow along and glide into each other... Bigup
