Those aren't rimshots but highpitched snares.
It's all breaks, just the kicks and snares and some hihats are layered on top.

For a break with good speed you need lots of layered hi hats but low volume. and have some cymbal rides going on 1/8ths. Make it so the kick and snare punch through. Its not as much repitition but variation in velocities n such in your hats. Just mess around and eventually you'll get dat fast sound. Also, sometimes the break alone might not sound fast but once you add synths it picks up speed.

put some ordinary hi-hats on the odd 16ths (1/16, 3/16, 5/16 etcetara) and higher pitched but lower volume ones on all the even 16ths... it'll sound like a sorta 'digadigadigadiga' sound... lawl
Another thing I do is get a break (Amen usually), lower the mid and high range (frequencies) to emphathise the low end, and have that playing 'under' some drum n' bass beatz

you could also experiment some slight shuffle on the digadiga (oh this term is so funny makes me wanna rofl) hats but as the basic rule says don't overdo it or your break will jump in steps instead of flow naturally. also keep in mind dat if you start shufflin something you should continue shufflin other elements of your break as well and with the same amount or you will hear your unshuffled hats overlaping your shuffled hats causing unpleasure to your hearing organ.
i have in mind some tunes that use the diga (laughin again) effect: fourward-golden age (very proeminent here) and break & hydro-deliverance.

...work on saturdays is so boring.
