I am getting a new pc in a few months, and looking at my options. I know it would be cheaper to build my own, but i aint got a clue about the insides of computers, so i wouldnt really know where to start with what components would be needed and how to put it together. I just wondered it it would be worth having a go myself or just to buy one and spend the extra cash

Go to a local pc seller who builds them for you (not just a box mover, someone who knows what's inside a pc). And tell him what you want (fast CPU, lots of memory, big HD, lame graphics board, better soundcard, .. stuff like that) and he'll make you an offer. Then you can still look around for some ready made pc's and see if they are cheaper. Although I have an idea of the inside of a pc I've done it this way, it's good for warranty and trouble shooting and performance tweaking afterwards. These guys mostly have excellent service-while-you-wait instead of those carry-in service deals from Dell, HP, ... where you'll lose your pc for a lousy 4-6 weeks when it needs fixing.

its only cheaper to build if your willing to put some money into it...aka cheaper parts are better bought pre assembled. My comp I built this summer cost around 4k with the speakers and a dell equivalent was about 7.5k with the speakers. But if I was going cheaper it might have been more advantageous to just buy it prebuilt.

And yes whats your budget and goals for the comp? If its strictly audio stuff then you can safe al ot but if its also a personal enjoyment comp as well as work like mine you'll spend an ass load more haha.

cheers for the feedback, i have tried a few places for a quote but most the places i have asked never got back to me. least i know there customer relations is sh*t so not to bother going with them. my budget is around £1000, up to £1300 so about 1500euros.

with the budget 1.3k you can build a nice machine, best if you could do it ur self but as you say u dunno a shit about that i persume that going to decent pc store and quoting budget and asking for the fine fast machine with lots of storage space and decent soundcard will be best i think. Also you could consider trying to find nice and affordable pro soundcard buy it ur self and ask them to fit it to your machine as i dont really think they will know much about scards, and they probably will try to put some shit inside.
bigups.
