I just found out (though I never used this too often to be able to remember it) that FL does have 24 int rendering option, as well.

I was always working in 16 int or 32 float. Strange.

for those who dont know (seems obvious) if u ever intended for your tracks to be listened to, then you must use 16bit @44.1k, its CD standard and everything under the sun plays it, 24bit and up is meant more for studio work so when you bounce down to 16bit it sounds as good as possible. There are things that can play the higher bit depths and sampling rates but generally most dont, my AD/DA does 24bit 192k but doesn't mean everyone else is as lucky ^^

Dithering is the addition of random levels and frequencies of noise to your track in order to randomize errors as our ears prefer random error. Only way to avoid needing this is to use Delta modulation as opposed to Pulse Code (PCM) but few systems can handle anything in Delta so thats why you never see it anywhere

side note - humans cant hear much above 20-21k unless you have exceptional hearing

I believe I once heard that 32-bit floating point means that your channels can in fact not clip. Pretty much like checking what has to go through the door before you build it..

32 bit allows you to go above digital 0 but you will still clip eventually. If you ever noticed that volume faders go from negative infinity to around +2? Because 0 is technically as loud as you can go which is why we limit to -0.1 If you bounce a CD standard wav that goes above digital 0 in the master it will distort like a mofo when it does
