buy yourself a Sure SM58 (not wireless)
you'll spend about 125-150 euro, but they're worth it and they're about life long guarantee ...
we bought one about 5 years ago and everytime i take it it still feels like new ...
probably one of our best buys on that department (except for the TL Audio vocal preamp
)

If you want to record vocals I'd say the same thing, go for an SM58. It's not a great mic but you can't find anything better in that price range anyway.
Don't pay more than ¤70 for a second hand one, and see if it is not dented and doesn't smell bad

Official page
Price: 111 ¤ (Music Store Köln)
If you want a really good vocal mic that you can also use to record almost anything else with, check the Neumann KMS105 - it's around 300¤ but it's a really good condenser mic with a very transparent sound, I have used it for vocals, brass (trumpets, sax, ...), guitar amps, acoustic guitar, even hihats with excellent results.

I have done a gig with a sax player two weeks ago who brought this mic along.
The mic sounds reasonably good (probably better than an SM58, but I didn't compare them side-by-side) but there is a problem with the mic - it has a wide pick-up zone (polar pattern) so it doesn't only pick up the sounds that enter from the front, but also a lot of the sound that comes in from the side and the back - we couldn't use it on stage since it was very sensitive to feedback because of this.
In the studio this is ofcourse not so much a problem, because you use headphones instead of a monitor, but it will pick up a lot of noise that will end up on the recording. So you probably have to isolate the room a bit (cover up the windows and door with a mattress f.e.) and you will have to move all noisy equipment (PC etc) outside the room where you do the recording.
On the good side, you can probably record a greater variety of instruments with this mic.

Some other piece of advice: if you plan on recording directly into the PC, you need a good sound card with a mic input (phantom powered on XLR) or a mixing desk with mic inputs inbetween the mic and the PC, otherwise you won't be able to make good recordings.
The best thing you can get is a dedicated mic preamp, that gives a perfect signal for recording. You can get them in many different qualities, e.g.
- ART Tube MP: 1 channel, 120 euro
- Behringer T 1953 Ultragain: 2 channels, 255 euro
- TL Audio Ivory II 5001: 4 channels, 666 euro
- Avalon Design M 5: 1 channel, 1850 euro
- Summit Audio TPA-200B: 2 channels, 3200 euro

i'm gonna correct you here
my mom has been working @ VRT for 10-15 years now and those mics really have their purposes ...
a studio is fully isolated and has perfect wiring and perfect mics for the quality (you wouldn't been able to listen if they'd use regular mics ...), also for live broadcasts these things are quite necessary because of the good limiters and the way they catch sound (surround mics, like the one shown above, straight mics that only catch vibes whom are straightly spoken into it etc.) i don't know all of it but it's certainly no waste of money ...
the difference between the SM58 and consorts and those studio mics like here above is exactly what i said ...
an SM58 is no studio mic, it's (probably still the best) live performing mic ... you should ask MC DOC about it, i know he's drooling on one of those ...
if you want a studio mic you'd better save up lots of cash and buy a descent AEG mic or something in that range ...
here's an adress to contact for information and where you could buy it, it's in Mechelen, don't know where you're from so ...
