Some people use a technique that isn't necessary to know but I like playing devil's advocate so here you go.
Once you become familiar with using sine wave as a subbass, you can also substitute the sine wave for another waveform and throw a low pass filter on top of it at some arbitrary point, lets say inbetween 80-100hz, you can also use EQ to cut out any frequencies above this (The Parametric EQ that comes with FL is perfect for this, load one up and choose the low pass setting for band one, slide it to the appropriate frequency). The point being that the kick and the subbass don't occupy the same frequencies, hopefully your kick is sitting around 100hz. If the kick and the subbass are around the same area it will affect your mix negatively, so try not to have that happen.
The reason for using another waveform is that you generate more harmonic content in your subbass and it gives it more character. But I guess if your tune is so empty that people have nothing else to pay attention to besides subbass, you're not doing a good job making people dance!

Use a high ratio of compression with the fastest possible attack and release.

A good and powerful subbass is only so good and powerfull because it has interesting mids. Just a humming sub isn't very interesting.
Layer a sub (as mentioned in previous posts) and the same sub with distortion on it, the second one should be hi-passed (>150Hz) to avoid canceling sub frequencies.
Play with the level of the distored sub, it should be audible, but it should not dominate. Your bass should sound like an interesting sub, not like a mid bass with a big low end.
In FL you can easily route the same sub bass into 2 mixer channels. Low pass the first one, hi pass and distort the second one.

some good tips here. another way to do it is to make a patch on your synth with a sine wave at the root note and an octave about have a square or a saw. then have both of these routed to a lp filter. the trick is to keytrack the filter so that every note you press the filter will move up with it so that it is consistant no matter which key you press. then you need to bump up the resonance a tiny bit and play with the filter till you find a nice sweet spot. dont go mad though a tiny bit will do. then heavily saturate it to warm it up and compress it quite heavily. you should end up with a punchy warm tone that has a small ammount of harmonics makin it easier to mix, but you will have to spend some time tweaking and experimenting till you get something that works but when you do its worth it.
