do i need more ram, does the sound card need updating,( its just a standard one, sound blaster i think ) or do i need to fully upgrade my pc?

I'm not 100% sure, but my guess would be to upgrade your RAM first and your processor if you can. Having enough virtual memory will help tremendously to keep track of all those plug-in states without having to bounce your mixer channel into a sample.

Also some things that will help are making sure that FL gets the highest possible priority in the "Sound" settings tab in Options. You can also check "Smart Disable" in the mixer if you are using a plug-in that sucks up a lot of CPU but isn't on for the whole song like if you are using CamelPhat or a plugin like iZotope Ozone, because those VSTs can suck up a lot of CPU really fast and FL will toggle them off when they're not being used to conserve memory.

But you probably know those already anyways. Big Grin Just tryin to help mate.

I vote for getting more RAM for starters. I doubt you would need to replace your PC.

Tools -> Macros -> Switch Smart disable for all plugins - tremendous improvement in cpu usage! Wink

Your computer is aging, I would not spend too much cash on upgrading, as you will eventually need a new one.

If you say your CPU is maxing out, then no extra memory in the world is going to help you. Extra memory is usually step 1 in upgrading, as it can speed up your PC enormously by reducing the amount of necessary disk swapping. But if you hit the CPU's limits this won't help any more. Likewise the sound card has no influence on the CPU (unless you get something like the Universal Audio UAD-2 which has CPU built in).

First try all possible software tricks to reduce the CPU load: a particularly good one is to render / bounce / freeze tracks with lots of effects. I don't know how to do this in FL Studio though. When this does not help any more start saving for a new pc.

The Pentium 4 has been released 9 years ago, which is ancient in computer years. Get something like a Core i7 and get blown away Big Grin

if you didnt know bout the macros thing that means every plugin you use in a project its running the whole time jus that alone prob jus solved u problem,

beware tho that if u got a long delay smart disabble can cause probbs, u will hear the delay cut short. sumfin to be aware wen it cums down to mixing or expotin

i usually smart disable evrythin except my delays unless its a short one.

u know bout closin windows?
disablein u firewall, and antivirus software.
try n keep as much free disk space as poss delete unnecessary files.
yer cronic sed soundcard wont change cpu jus quality, but if you change the latency setting on it (audio settings, aiso control pannel) to sumfin higher/longer it will make a big diff.
im asumein wen u say standard u down mean it the one that came wiv u comp.
i dont know how much of this u know already

Nobody knows yet, it is impossible to do this in an elegant manner. Mad

Yes, there is. Don't go bashing the program if you don't know how to do it.

The easiest way:

select record (the little diskette icon) on each mixer track you want to bounce. It will ask you on every single one where to save it and under what name. After you finish this, you will have all your desired mixer tracks for bouncing with yellow lightened diskettes.
Make sure that in the mixer menu, you select disk recording -> select auto create audio clip, latency compensation, and 32-bit floating. Auto-unarm is useful, too.

Then, press record, switch to song mode (because it should render it directly in the playlist), otherwise (if you're in pattern mode) it will just render the wavs but will not put them directly in the playlist.

Press play and let them play. When you reach the point where it is enough (say 2 patterns or whatever) just press stop. Voila - new audio tracks appear in your playlist section, with the rendered mixer states.

Then, just go to the mixer, disable the FX (you have a button for this) and mute the channels you just rendered.
