Hmmm, what do you mean with 'real'? More analogue sounding? Or what?
Some (virtual) analogue distortion helps a lot imo (Antares Tube, Vintage Warmer, ...)

a good softsynth (they're all good, they all just sound different), try a modular synth first, it's easier to use and understand
and look at the topic on breakz in the music discussions called bass-DNB-Synth
lots of intresting things there ...

It all starts with a wicked sample not a synth.
This was a lesson hard learned for me. I always thought it was about what synth you use. When really its about what sample you put into your sampler. Then proccess the hell out of it with the stuff mentioned by Surya b4. I use the vintage warmer on drums only though. Split your lead sound into multiple channels and effect the channels differently.
Like Hi-pass a channel distort a channel delay a channel etc.
