so you little fucks say i don't have intro in my songs. i hate the whole atmospheric non-rhythmatic, no beat intros, i like maybe 4 bars of minimal beats (wich everyone loves more then the song) then the verses to start, and the rest of the song. so even if the minimal intros are good enough, how the fuck long should it be?

keep in mind, i am not a prog rock band, so i don't go for 4-5 minutes long intros then kick into a 15 minute long song, with a middle 8 that goes for 5 minutes solid.

Its like making love:

How long should the foreplay take?

How can you possibly expect an objective answer for this? Or are all your tunes in fact the same tune? Big Grin

same tune.
to answer the other question, let me rephrase it in bold letters that are capitalized for you to read easier, making no sense to comprehension, but still in a brutish way in my meaning, none the less....

HOW LONG ARE YOUR INTROS?

normally from the very start of tune to the drop it tends to be around 64 bars maybe another 16 on top

really long intros with no beat etc are harder to mix (if theres little / no reference point for the DJ to use) and i've lately been takin that into consideration, however i'm still a big fan of theatrical / movie like intros that really set the scene (hahah foreplay is a cool term for that!)

that was what i was told, to start of with simple beats for beat matching. i have done some tunes with mystical intro,s but when i listen to them i get bored of em. thoes mystical intros are cool the first time or two around. my songs are ment to be listend to more than once. and a lot of times they'll grow on you if you give them a few goes.

that's from the 1 minute compo when thechronic judged the tunes by which kept his attention in repeate listen. so i make songs that now stand up better in a repeate listen. songs as a whole, not as a single run.

Sometimes 32 bars.. Sometimes 64. I often start making tracks at the beginning (I dont make the drop first)
so it's sometimes hard to make a long intro that is also interesting enough for the listener.

if noone made intros, how the hell woudl mixes start?

its hard, yeah, its piss easy making techno where only thing you do is introduce new instruments with a couple of swooshing sounds from time to time

intro is important because it sets the tone, the mood, it can turn a tune upside down, using contrasting motives etc.
