A friend of me is making mixes inside FL studio.
But some parts of the mix are clipping (espacially when two songs are playing on top of each other). I know you can fix it manually by adjusting the volume of each song. But if you use a limiter you can asure that there is no clipping anywhere and the volume of the mix stays somewhat constant (Right?).
But how should you set up the limiter? I tried somethings and high release works best Imo, but I had troubles finding the right attack and threshold
better to solve the problems at the source rather than add something that will compromise the sound, a limiter should be ok but if it gets pushed too hard it will sound crap. if there is nothing on the master you could just pull the master fader down to stop the clipping.
yeah agree with all of the above really, best tackle these issues at the root cause to save headaches later when u are near completion of the tune, think of the limiter as a tool for boosting the master volume and ensuring none of those lil peaks get out of hand and cause clipping
also some subtle compression on the master can help smooth out peaks a bit as well

Yeah sorry I forgot to mention I meant dj-mixes.
My friend made a 10 mix and it clipped lightly for 30 seconds and I tried to run it trough a limiter to see if it would fix the clipping but I couldnt figure out the right settings. But it looks like adjusting the source gives a way better result.
Thx for the advice!
that's the thing, you shouldn't make the 0 mark the point where you don't want it to pass. you should make it something like -3 or -6db. that's 6 dB BELOW the clipping mark, so then when you add the limiter one then, you can push it slighting, and it'll sound very good, very normal.
once it's clipped, and you try to limit it THEN, AFTER it's been recorded as clipping, it's too late. there's no way to undo that sound, it has to be befor ethe clipping.
but the best advice i can give, is it shouldn't even clip without the limiter, once you have it, then make the limiter boost the signal a bit, just so the compression kicks in a tiny bit at the HEAVIEST part of a song. if it's good there, then if it ever goes HORRIBLY BAD, you won't hear the compression kick in that much, or for that long.
again, if he recorded it clipping, he fucked up. there's no undo. you'll have the sound on there, even if you limit it after, too bad, you live you learn.
