The monitors I want to get (Adam A7s) only have XLR and phono inputs, bascially I will need male XLR to 1/4in jack speaker cables, but what I want to know is...

Does gold plating of the connectors really matter?

They need to be mono cables if i want a balanced signal right? I'm fairly sure thats the case

Will an instrument cable be up to the job? I know big speakers need thicker cable, but these are only 100w each so will for example a guitar lead be suitable?

cheers Smile

gold is on of the best electrical conductors, so it does improve the soundquality.

why spend all that money on the speakers if you want to cheap out on cables?

Instrument cables won't be good enough really.

You want two balanced 1/4" Jack to XLR cables.

You don't want them too long either, just enough to get from computers output to the speakers.

@ghost aye, i wasn't intending on going cheap on cables :p its proving hard to find high quality ones >.< and yeah, 10ft should be fine

I just don't really know of any good brands to look for for cables! I don't want to buy generic ones because they're likely not made well Frown

You could always make some yourself.

http://www.studiospares.com/Cables+Connectors/icat/shocablesconnectors

Try that link and get yourself some balanced cable, some jack plugs, XLR plugs then get down to maplins and buy a soldering iron.

Could end up more expensive than pre made but you'll have yourself a soldering iron for future cabling Big Grin
