I've been selected for the trials, but by looking at torrents of the program, it is 1.7gig, so I will have to wait for my broadband to start on its new quota. Bloody NZ internet 
Anyway, what ya think?

its a very good program mate though the audio editing is a dissapointment if im honest not very in depth
but the sound is phenominal compared to reason

The one point of Reason where a lot of people were moaning about on certain forums (DOA): sound quality.
They should have improved the Reason sound engine instead of making a new tool.

I don't think reason is all that bad for sound really. The thing with reason is that you need to make your own tools in reason to get the quality out. My last track I put up, sounded better before I mastered (using that term loosely
) it and quite a few people said the sound quality was pretty good, not just peeps on this site.
What I use to get the sound is using the Acoustic mastering suite, plus a bit of eq before hand from the mixer. All drums (some other stuff to) go through a mulitband compressor and I have taken up ocationally re-layering the tracks and using different settings on each multiband.
I have also moved away from sidechaining (because I'm no good at it
) and am using another combi that I made that knocks out the frequecies, for example: where the bass kick is or snare is, it only knocks only those frequencies of the bass and leaves the rest.
If you don't make and use tools in Reason, your tracks will sound hollow.
I think reason is a great program and it was a lot easier for me to use than FL Studio, simply, because I used to play guitar and use FX pedals, which set up the same way as Reason does.
I must admit, I was dissapointed about lack of vst usage, but that doesn't bother me at all now. Simply, because, most fx are acomplishable in reason once you have the know how. As for synths, well, one day I will upgrade and use the mighty THOR. Probably just before before R5 comes out...

i have been told the eq is 20 bit
and i dont know what this means because im not a tech head but the standard seems to be 32 :S i think that is why it sounds different, i dont think it sounds poor like some people make out but i agree with you battledrone they should have just brought out a new reason with a better sound engine and the same extra plugins but sayin that the new mixer is really nice man and i think its gonna keep people ocupied for a while

aparently if you have reason 4 installed you can have all the synths etc from it. is this true? and can you open or import old rns files? that would be cool. surely if this is true an you have audio + more fx, you might aswell not bother with reason on its own (unless u usually use a seperate sequencer etc like cubase or something) ?

may well be that from all the "nanofication" of technology that there will come one day that we will actually go back to the 8 bit computers... in a weird way, with the processor cores multiplying makes you think the amoebas started the same way, multiplying. scary shit
