sounds like ur talkin about the rise pitch bend synth he uses for the build up, not too hard to make really, just make ur own synth sound (adjust the envelopes so its playing a sustained note) or just take a preset of a sound u like and tweak it to taste, then automate the pitch so it rises - job done Bigup

If you use the fruity standard plugins (it works for some other vsts as well) you have a huge control for bending notes from one pitch to another within the piano roll.
Try this with 3xosc, sytrus or likewise:

First thing you do is choose from which note your pitch shell be raising (or falling) and then you add, as I showed in my lovely drawing, the second block that defines to where the pitch will raise and depending on the length of that sucker, how fast (the longer, the slower). Do not forget to hit the slide button at the left corner before drawing the second note.

Another method is to program the shift within your synthesizer. Take your 3xosc, make a sound, go to the instrument properties and then pitch. Turn the amount button on the very right to some degree and start editing your pitch curve. It’s important to move the amount button first, because in its neutral position you can change the envelope but will hear no effect at all.

But there is another way that works with most synthesisers. Set the polyphony to mono, aprox. one note is allowed to be played even if you hit two or three. Adjust the slide and now just press one key and add another, the pitch will start to slide. The 3xosc has this function available under miscellaneous properties, polyphony. The names may vary for other synth, like mono, legato, portamento.,. so you have to look around a bit.

Imo, first method is the most precise, but sometimes you are forced for various reason to pick one of the others that are useful as well.

The pitch controller has range multiplier right next to it (the digit). Make it bigger, so you have a bigger range of modification.

Hey mate Big Grin
well what i usually do for builds, especially if your using fl, to use porta mono to make your pitch bends.
thats how i do them anyway Big Grin
with reason, i guess you just create an automation clip on the pitch if your using a vsti like thor.
hope this helps, good luck!

oh and did i mention to use volume automation to?
make it get louder and louder, not too chaotically, cuz this could collide with your mix.
just try and smoothen it out into a sexy 16 bar beat.
8 if you want, but i prefer 16. makes the tension that little bit more.
also, remember to add some fx to go along, nothing to blatent, just some 'finishing touches' if you like, to make it all the more interesting.
i say again, hope this helps!
greetz!

Also along these lines, how do you get the kind of sweeping filter effect used on drums leading up to the drop, I think I noticed it in HC's days go by on not just the drums.
