Please check out my new track 'July 09' and post your comments here!
Hi everyone. Wrote this track in about a week. It fell together rather well, well, for one of my tracks anyway. It was just a pain trying to master it, that took the time. I'm not really that happy with the mastering, to tell the truth.
All sounds are made in Reason 3 and are my own creations.
I would like to Thank Ketz and Battledrone for there feedback and help with earlier versions. It was much appreciated. Also Cynik for forgeting to listen to it!
This track, I am happy to call my first finished track. I don't intend rewritting any of it. As I mention earlier, my only real complaint is the mastering and a couple of minor issues with volume on the vocal stabs... They sound great on my stereo, but quiet in my car...
Not enough sub action going on. Also I am not too wild about the synth. Sounds too standard. The break could use boosting. Its a bit silent and too mono. Add some more variation. Gets boring to quickly. The second break doesnt bring anything new. cheers
I really like the Dark bass sound, it brings back old times. Reminds me of Bad Company's old shizzle. And indeed the vocal stabs could be a bit louder but its not disturbing at all. I like it!
Oh mate, this one takes me back to the dnb glory days of the early Ed Rush sound! Really, really loving the vibes here. Yep, definitely reminds me of early Ed Rush. I miss those days so much.
No one makes that stuff anymore.
I love the way this is a little slower than most dnb today. It's got more groove, more heaviness, more headbangability. The beats and basslines are pretty much perfect for me. Love that high-pitched synth melody in the intro as well. That bit reminds me of the Prodigy.
The mix, however, does have problems, like you already said. In particular, there seems to be a lack of depth. The lows and low mids just aren't dominant enough. Everything seems to be either in the mids or highs.
This one definitely gets the download treat from me.

Yeah this is sounding rly nice,
drums are a bit too quiet tho, maybe turn em up a bit. Lead isn't anything too original but I like it anyways.
Vocals fit in nicely.. I'm definately liking this stuff
all i gotta say is epic tune mate
fair enough a few tweaks could be made to improve it think the mid range bass is a little loud and drowns the drums but takin it back to the roots man love it one of the best i heard for a while on here from a musical
point of view
edit: (second time listenin) i would really do a bit more to this mate i think with a bit of work this tune could be very very good

Thanks matey. I'm going to leave it for now. Sometimes a good break will bring out fresh idea... That reminds me, got about 50 other tracks I've got to finish off!

*Newbie moment* i know thats a classic break, but i forgot the name of it, got a Metalheadz vibe to it, wicked!
Bass develops well, nice and gritty, like the texture, has a strange crunchy delay feel to it, good use of fx mate.
Its a bit experimental sounding, not that its a bad thing, just a bit more deeper than the average dance floor track.
Love the synth, what is it?
My only criticism would be to drop the synth out earlier in places, and where there are parts where the drums cut out, maybe, have a fill in break with some automation on to give the track a lift..
Quite an epic synthscape (is that even a word?) runnin in the background..
The high pitched synth was some reason preset, which was drastically modified and rebuilding by yours truely, plus put through a moving filter effect that I built. The actual note were the same ones I used from the hoover sound in the 2 minute comp done last month. I just changed the synth, made a couple of alteration and here you are.
The growling bass is my own, along with the sub. Not sure about the main break, but the one at the end (actually running all the way through), is a rip I did of Digitals - Gateman. Just changed around and put through a multiband compressor I made.
I must admit, it isn't your typical dance floor hit, but that isn't really my love of dnb now days. I'm more into the booming bass and mashed up beats. That is why I love pirate radio, like rude fm (watch out, apparently Flex FM is back on the dial around London again
) and I'm not really into the normal mainline dnb nights now days.
the way you processed the bassline or whatever sounded really dark, likin that. nice melodies, an the sub makes the mix of the bass sound nice an clear, a really good mixdown compared to some stuff I've heard on here.

Thanks Timmi.
I been using a few new production techniques on my newer tracks. Instead of EQing my drums, I've been using a multiband compressor I made, also using it on some other sounds. I find that it is filling the sound out a lot more, but is still working well at reducing unwanted noise.
With the bass, I made a combinator that cuts out certain frequecies when the kick or snare hits. Its a bit like the sidechain feature in Reason, but doesn't knock out the whole sound like sidechaining does. Its seem to be paying off.
WOW! Just noticed I'm in the top tracks for the month chart. This is a prowd moment for the human race

Hello mate.
Im new here, so you proberly wouldn't have heard of me or my music hehe.
this is my second review so..here it goes!
liking the sounds of this one mate!
i think you have pretty good potential.
just a few problems i gotta spit out though. =D
intro sounds quite nice and melodic, but try and add a bit more 'atmosphere2 and ambience to it. minor changes also help. even if they are not noticable, they can make the listener enjoy the flow more.
also, the bass sounds slightly out of its place. try and mix it in more. also, try adding a sub bassline, preferably a normal sine wave for starters. also, a good tip for mastering is to keep low cutting your frequencies, to leave a lot of space in the mix so it doesnt sound too compressed.
other than that, impressive stuff.
looking forward to seeing what you come up with next, mate.
