sound wise, WALL-e voice s done by a sound designer STAR WARS and more.
the movies sound design in it, has to be one of the best I have witnessed in any movie. all the little robot sounds are good. there's so much silent parts, that are propagated by sounds. and not organic sounds, but robotic ones. very VERY well done. I am thinking I should make some samples of it.
"Within the first 5 minutes there is monologue via the holographic billboards. The first dialogue between WALL·E and EVE begins 22 minutes into the movie. The first human dialogue begins 39 minutes into the movie."
When EVE First speaks to WALL-E (shortly after blowing the shipyard to bits) she cycles through various languages. One of those languages is Huttese, spoken by Jabba the Hutt in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983).
and WALL·E, as a character, is a perfect example of the Ship of Theseus paradox. It's hinted that every single piece of the original WALL·E, except his main chip, has been replaced by himself prior the story. By the end of the film, EVE replaced WALL·E's main chip, revealing that the original WALL-E is gone until she restores his "mind".
WALL-E is the first Pixar film to be nominated for 6 Academy Awards

I think it's the best work by Pixar, and not just for the reasons Cliff mentioned.

I liked it a lot, seen it twice now. Sound is indeed wonderful, and the lack of dialog is great
Only major gripe I had was that throughout the film the grasshopper was clearly not seen as a life form.

other numerous ripoffs throughout. the only thing worthwile is the presentation and the audio visual quality, which no matter how good it is done, it can never do anything for the story. its a polished turd |
one calls it a rip off, the other says there is numerous "references" in the movies, from star wars, star trek, galaxy quest, short circuit, other pixar movies, apple computers, and of course, the god of all sci-fi movies, Space Odessy: 2001 as well as all the robots follow Isaac Asimov 3 basic laws of robotics. all in a dystopia future that's quite a rip off of Blade Runner. they had famous directs help get the lighting and pictures done as real as possible, as well as studied silent movies like Charlie Chaplin to get that silent shit rocking so hard.
again one can call it a rip off, but that flawed story made me cry at least 3 times. I myself could relate to that fucking robot more so then any other story I have seen... as well as it being one of the funniest stories in forever.
as movies go, they have more and more and MORE dialog. some of it so fucking redundant. the understanding for that is, you can watch the movie by just listening to it and everything should be described, not so in the 80's. but that's the trend. wall-e turned that around.
to be honest, a movies graphics and sound is usually correlated with how good the movie is. batman the dark knight had some of the greatest effects in movies, and the plot just pops out that much better when you can immerse yourself into thinking it's real. to forget the fact that it's all make believe. if you remember that it's all fake, it's so easy to dismiss the ENTIRE movie.
bad plots and bad acting detract from the graphics and the visuals just the same. they are related. so solid plot about keep earth clean without coming off as preachy, ALWAYS A HARD SELL, AND it also talks about consumerism, and obesity.
content-wise it had a strong message about social political issues. entertainment wise it was funny and enjoyable. style wise it was the realest movie pixar has done yet. with many tributes to the great.
BLAH BLAH BLAH you get it.

he was seen as a pet not a sentient life form though. it was suppose to be about that joke that when everything in the world is destroyed the only thing that will be left is, cockroaches and twinkies (which was the cockroaches food).
for all we know the cockroach was a robot too, they had robot mice in the dumpster.

All life on earth is gone, humans are wheeling around in a spacecraft that will return home when life has returned to earth. First life form is some plant, completely ignoring the grasshopper that is happily jumping around next to our robot hero.
I think Halph has a good point in that it is probably a robot too. What would it eat if the first living plant would only appear after it has already reached grasshopper legal age? Must be pretty hungry by then if it were a true live grasshopper.

it's not a grasshopper, it's a cockroach. the whole myth of them out living humans is the joke. but, yeah, twinkies don't last that long either, for food. cockroaches need humans, they live off of waste. but not 700 year old waste. It's a robot.
