There are several popular audio formats that Audacity does not support out of the box: AC3, AAC, Apple Losless, RealAudio etc.

Luckily adding support of these file types is very easy in the latest versions.
  • Edit > Preferences
  • click on Import / Export
  • click the 'FFmpeg library download' button
  • A page opens where you can download the FFmpeg plugin + install instructions


Here is the full list of supported audio formats.

mu audicity wont even support mp3 exporting?? am i missing a codec or something to enable this? will only let me export as .wav which isn't a massive problem as i onlly use audicity for sampling from t'internet or dvd's.....but exporting as an .mp3 would be nice.

did you try registering lame as a format?

IV GOT THE SAME PROBLEM AND CANT SEEM TO SORT IT OUT. IV DOWNLOADED THE LAME STUFF AND IT MAKES NO CHANGE?
