Oh, there was an article in the papers earlyer this week that it's closed until the area is converted from industrial to recreational. Dunno why that should be a problem, but yeah, who am I. Fucking politics!!!

hmm sounds like fun - missed this thread a bit it seems...
I have contacts in rental-services for various sound & lighting stuff - dno if that's could help (seems like equipment wasn't a real issue). A location is indeed always the hardest part.
Open-air is very hard - certainly if no real commercial benefits are to be expected, some cities/villages support it when the local economy can profit from it.
Open-air also tends to be a lot more expensive if you need good tents and stuff unless you already have them, or count on the weather gods to be mercifull upon your souls
I can maybe arrange a circus tent for free - but that thing is HUGE - it easily houses 1000+ party-peepz + bar + stock for bar + crew only area. I once organized a party (long time ago) using this - but I would not recommend trying this :p
Problems are: you need 20+ peepz to set it up (and still then it's a hell of a job), and even more to take it down... This is way too big for what is being discussed here. The sound system has to be as huge as the tent itself. You need a big air ventilation system if it's during the day, cause otherwise when the sun shines very hard, it get verrrrry hot inside, and it almost doesn't cool down at night (we had probz with that)
Financial stuff can be arranged in different ways, at least if we're not talking about 1000's of euro's
Spending money for such things is "last resort" - first try to get everything for free
Brewery will always cost some money - but even there you can play tricks
Sponsorship is going to be hard, unless you approach it as a "local" thing, then you can maybe get local sponsors.
The main problem is always the organisation itself - who does what - and how are things checked if they are done, who has experience, time, organisational skills, ... A lot of things I saw being organized (or was a part of myself) failed here, simply because or there is no skill at all, or you have certain people who want to do it all theirselfs, and blame others that they don't do anything when it goes wrong.

There are some peeps involved here that already have some experience with organizing, so I think that will come smart (
those literal translations)
thechronic said he could arrange the sound and light stuff (he's in that business) but he hasn't said anything in this thread yet, maybe I sould send him a few hints

depends on how much promotion you make, and how lucky you are feeling
If you stick to flyers, they won't find out, even a few posters and you can be seriously fucked, especially in big cities like Gent etc. They just walk around and make notes of the party posters they see hanging around i guess.
Don't forget 'billijke vergoeding': if the venue is not paying for it, you have to. This includes all places that have no regularly 'dancing' events (bars, schools, forrests
). Billijke is also independent of entrance fee, but calculated by square m of dancefloor and m of bar, so can be quit much if it's a big venue.
example: party in cafe in Leuven, sabam is paid by cafe (so no worries). We had 100 A4 black & white posters, 400 b&w flyers. Was a small free party: 50 to 70 peez, no billijke
We never heard of billijke untill the bill came in my postal box: 200euro.
So it's quite difficult. easiest way is to find some sort of dance venue, and make sure the place pays both (most do, they pay in years). Or just stick to flyers and a remote location, or keep it 'private' (no entrance without flyer)
so watch out, or you can be seriously fucked. Hope this helps (but not demotivate you all!
)
cheers, more free parties

i bet you would
but that's not yet in discussion here ofcourse ...
i kinda liked the concept of a private party , flyer only entrance ... coz a lot of people from different parts of belgium will take part in this and since its the summer we can flyer enough so that all thise who want one , can get a flyer ..

I know the guys at the Silo and the MOD which both are quite big places and also the Zoo in Hasselt which is small and cosy. Maybe the Silo would be great but we would need a big name to attract enough people to pay for the costs.
I'm very much into the idea of organising a party
Getting the sound system and decks etc wouldn't be a problem for me at all, can get anything from a couple of small speakers up to a 40000W festival set
Cash is a problem for me though...

MOD is a serious option i think; i know most of the staff well, but then again it would not be for this summer...they are closed....
The cash is a problem though...

Ok, I see that money will b a problem, well, maybe I can fit a lil bit into that... (not the whole thing tho, but all help is welcome I guess)
About the rufftek camp: TOTALLY agree, but eye-D is already comming twice to belgium (kortrijk and oostende) in october... But leuven or hasselt is the whole other side off the country, so that would b nice (and theye are not THAT expensive)
Lets organise a lil get together for the ones that are interested in helping out after the exams or so... make the first plans etc etc...

Wanna help as well.
Have some experience with organising parties (smaller and bigger ones also).
I'm good at ordering people "Hey you! Fetch me some beer!!" "NOW!!!, goddamit!!"
"PLease sir, can i check your bags please for glass and/or weapons? Ow, what do we have here!! A bag of weed! Thank you very much! And oh, do have a pleasant evening."
