It is comparable to the iLok which is used in Protools systems, and this is a major pain in the ass imo, you always have to carry this stick with you if you want to use the software
It happened to me several times that I forgot the iLok in my desktop PC, and then could not use the software on my laptop. If you lose the key or it gets stolen, you lose all your licenses and have to pay for the software again.
Imo it is like a punishment for the people that have paid for it, people that use cracks don't need this stupid key

now that is a cunt really but i suppose who could blame them as 80 percent of reason users do so on cracked version ( dodgy estimation but probably not far off)
They should not use iLok on the first version, let it spread, let people get familiar with it... dumb fucks imo. How did Microsoft get so big? Because copy protection was virtually non existent in anything pre-xp.

Imageline used to use wicked copyprotection on their software too, until they saw that their actual customers were freaking out on it and often even using cracks even though they had a license.
The solution? There is no solution to cracking, everything can be cracked simple as that.
The problem? Is that people can't or don't want to pay for your software. The problem is not that your software will be cracked...
So what they do is they make the software harder to crack, which means basicly that it'll take a little while longer for the crack to come. But once it's there, it's likely that the users of the crack will be happier than the actual customers.
All companies should really realise this, it doesn't matter if I have 3 defence walls with 12 guard towers all around a swimming pool, if people aren't willing to pay for it they'll just forget about it. The price is cheap in its market sure, but I think it's overpriced especially if you compare with FL Studio, true, it won't give you the same smooth workflow for recording, but if you need just a little more than that - say you want to use EZDrummer and then record guitar, you're already screwed with Record.
The recording would also work with FL Studio and that Line6 stuff btw, Line6 has those devices with like 10 inputs, it wouldn't be hard to catch them all in any DAW or multitrack recording software.
But all that aside, I think it will be a succes anyway, just not on the same market segment as other DAWs.
Actually you are wrong. it will come with an iron ball and chain with a dongle inside it, which you must tie to your leg, as without a heartbeat Cubase 4 will not run.
Yes, but two things both must be true:
You must have Reason version 4 installed on your computer.
It must be registered with propellerheads.se to the same account as your signed up for Record.
If the above are true then your Reason instruments will show up in Record's device palette and will be available in Record.
Earlier versions of Reason and Reason Adapted will not integrate with Record. You must own Reason version 4.
! After September 9, 2009 when Record is released officially, users who want to buy Record and do not own Reason can buy the Record Reason Duo at special price. Reason users of any version can purchase the Record for Reason Users Sidegrade, which includes an update to Reason version 4 that enables using both. [Sorry there is no discount for Reason users who upgrade to version 4 before Record ships.]
Think I will wait until after September before I upgrade Reason

they will just crack that one... or not
reason wasnt cracked anyway. they just made a keygen. its not possible to blacklist keys coming out of a keygen, and the side upgrade will probably look for reason key in the registry.
I say all this because it will actually be easier to use cracked wares and even if its a little hassle to set up at least you wouldnt need to go through the torture of setting the copy protection software each fucking time you get inspiration. hell Id fire it up and not close it ever. even now, people buying software with silly protection methods immediately turn to the internet for cracks... they bypass copy protection, not steal and rob using cracked wares

Looks like they're going to be using a dongle like Cubase uses. That proved to be very successful for Cubase after number 3. The crack team AIR/H2O commented after breaking Cubase 3 that the amount of time taken on breaking 3 was to much and 4 would be even more complicated and not worth the time...
Personally, I don't like using cracked software, well music software anyway, so I would probably invest if it is that good.

except for the fact there's a dongle crack that cracks all and every dongle authorzation.... it's easier then buying a USB hub for legit programs even.
