I was looking to make the transtition from FL to AL in the summer, however, I'm not sure what the benifits of Ableton are in comparision, but I hear it IS better.

I have tried the Demo of Ableton and I found it very similar to FL in terms of power. I know that alot of the people on the forum are fond of FL, but I'm just wondering if anyone could help clarify the differences in limits are?

Thanks...

The big difference is that ableton live is really, really, really suited for 'live' stuff, whereas FL Studio... I heard some people who use it live but it seems very inconvenient.

I think FL Studio is a better choice to produce in, but ableton is better to go live. Which one is better? Using both, I suppose.

Try it and see if you like it better. There is no right or wrong for that matter.

I tried Live and didn't like it. The beatslicer for one is limited quite a lot and I didn't find it intuitive to work with.

I mainly use Reason 4 but I find Ableton live really easy when it comes to producing. And who needs a beatslicer when you can slice it in the arrange view. Personally I find live to be better than FL as I have Ableton Live 7 lite(I know I need to get the real version) and the FL8 demo. Maybe it is because I just don't like FL. I don't know. I find live to be a lot easier to use when I use my hardware. Also the automation is better in live than FL because you don't have to deal with all of those patterns. I actually don't really use live "live" unless you count recording from hardware.
Also the warping function that you can process on your audio is great! I use it to warp my basslines. Also Live can create some very strange and interesting music if you use warping. Like, it is possible to stretch your audio so much that sounds very strange and glitchy. Try doing that in FL.

iv had live since live4 demo
iv got both live 7.0.3 and the brand new live 8.0.1.
i use live 7 for my dj sets and 8 for producing.
iv got cubase sx3,acid,fl studio, and reason 4,
but always keep heading back to the grey box.
ableton and reason are prefect companions,
check out my youtube tuts (in the ableton section) for "rewiring reason" and "how to set up buses"with in live,
yeah thats me and yeah thats real time.
once you get into it, its real fast paced, whereas with sx and fl im still reading the pdf as how to do things.
id recommend getting the demo 7 or
("ahmm"(coughs slighty))"try before you buy".
some of the toys in live 7.
sampler,
drum rack,
operator,
tension,
the onboard fx are good but most of the time i just use waves vst plugs.
there are some great packs out for live as well
check out the "pure magnetics" series.
a

something else which looks as easy as live to work with (but iv not tried it yet)is "presonus studio one"
and has the same "drag and drop" philosophy,
which im quite lookin forward too.
any how just try stuff 1st if its not wot you like then try something else,
as the old saying go's "one mans meat is another mans poison"
enjoy

when I first saw Live I was instantly bought solely for the fact that when in sequencer you click on another place in the track it doesnt snap instantly, it instead mixes in that part of the tune. in reason, I just hate clicking over and over in in one spot to relisten whch after a while gets tiring because of the constant stop-starts of the beat.

thing about Live is its so easy to get used to, has a logical and a no bs, clean interface

so people say its good for live performance but I know its great for production also

as for the comparison with fruity, I dont think the two can compare

i really like live and would use it in rewire if my comp didnt grind to a halt after the drums and bass lol but its a great program and version 8 sounds amazing and is really easy to use. i didnt get chance to do much warping but i am aware thats also great in live. i started out on fl and found the interface a bit depressing and it sounded a little to gamey and generic to me well all the tracks i made in it did anyways.

i would say ableton though for its user freindlyness great sound and great features Big Grin

well I doubt that zircon had many comments about his song "sounding so fruity loops" when it was used almost a minute in the series "Heroes" a few weeks ago...

Dude, everything you wrote here can be done in FL Studio.

Fruity Slicer or SliceX is one of the best slicers I've seen and tried working on them.
Live is faster for usage because of its' user interface, which I concur, has faster learning curve than FL Studio's. But there is no such thing that can be done in Live that can't be done in FL Studio. Especially for producing (not live act). I admit FL Studio's live mode is cumbersome, so I don't recommend using it for it. But rewire works miracles Big Grin

The automation in FL Studio is great, especially because you have 5 or 6 ways to automate something (pattern clips, recording, whatever) and is definitely better than Live's. By my opinion, of course.

The warp function is the same that Live is using. (that's what I read somewhere, some 2 weeks ago, but can't find the source now) And you can stretch, cut, inverse or whatever else to any clip in FL Studio. So, it can be done. Bigup

to be honest everything you can ever want to do production wise can now be done with every sequencer available but some sequencers suit different peoples ways of working better than others so all this about one sequencer is shit etc is all a load of bollox really it what you use so your bound to be biased
