FTREC1206: Escher - Austere / Slice
Promos hitting the shops this week on this excellent debut 12" from the man known as Escher. With support coming from across the board this should have something for everyone. Mastered by Beau Thomas @ Masterpiece and packaged in the Eveson designed Future Thinkin housebag, in equal measures this is both an aurally and visually stunning effort that should not be missed. As always, available to buy in all good drum & bass and independent music retailers, so get them while they're hot!
Austere: Keeping it clean, simple and effective, Austere starts with a haunting intro that builds into an sombre underworld creeper and rolls out in a more than satisfactory fashion. This is a window into the sound of
the artist and gives a clear and distinct indication of Escher and the musical direction he is heading in.
Slice: Feel the chops as they hit like a butchers knife through a side of ham. A good ol' fashioned meaty slab of drum & bass with a 2009 feel which has been rotated heavily by some of the more aware selectors out there, support comes from a wide range of DJ's with both tracks being picked up by a diverse range of selectors from drum & bass and beyond including Fabio(BBC Radio 1), Randall, Friction, Loxy, Gremlinz, Sabre, Grooverider, Nerm(BBC Asian Network), Bailey, Shy FX and more.
