Just wondering if anyone has one of these yet. I've been running one for about 2 weeks now and have to say this is one hell of a jump from my socket 939 Opteron 185. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions of this processor. Also, I happen to notice here lately my idle temps on the processor have increased from when I first got it. I use Core Temp 0.99 to monitor my temps and noticed for like the first week I've had it it would idle from 33-36C and now here the last few days it's been idling more 39-42C. Is this normal? It's just the stock heatsink and I don't have it overclocked since I think 3.0GHz is damn good for now right out the box. My room temps haven't really changed and I don't use it any more heavy than i usually do.

I know people always suggest using your own thermal paste before installing a new processor but I would think the paste that comes already applied on the heatsink should be good for stock settings. Any thoughts? I would just hate to kill my new investment due to bad temps.

Don't worry about that temperature, it can run much hotter without damage

Yeah, no real probz. Just for comparison, my laptop goes up to 70 degrees Celsius when working hard, and that is completely normal Wink

wholy shit, that's hot. yeah, i guess i feel better now knowing that. i've just never have had any of my processors in the past idle like that. even my single core athlons in the past and my opteron would idle around 35-38, even in a fairly warm room.

40° is probably the max temp, you can look up that info in the manual

a good cooler is a better solution than looknig for paste in your case IMO

passive coolers are preferable for DAW's (no noise), for about >50€ you can get some very decent material:

noctua

or "ZALMAN" has also some good stuff

I am a happy noctua customer Smile

laptop processors are designed to run at such temperatures, so 70° would not be healthy... Wink

wow man, thanks for the tip on those noctua's. i see they sell them at newegg.com where i religiously buy pc components so i'll feel quite safe buying one there. i'm looking at that nh-c12p model thinking that may be closer to what i would need. seems it's got pretty descent reviews too. Bigup
