For those using Buzz there is one big frustration: apart from some great plugins (like overloader) there aren't any functions being added or bugs being fixed for almost 4 years now, which is a real pitty, becouse Buzz is great.
That's why this great news has arrived (for a short while now) someone has had the great idear, and the currage to start making a 100% new but 100% compatible new program: BUZZle
The process is making a lot of prgress and it looks like we will finally get a worthy replacement for the old version (which is still great ofcourse), unlike previous attempts (like Psycle wich is more of an elite tracker)
I realy hope HotKey goes thru with this, beacouse it really looks great. Some of the planned additions/improvements are ReWire links and such, making it a realy versatile program!

Every version is a real improvement, although there is still a long way to go

i must say...i never even heard of buzz until i started visiting this site....once i found out it was free i downloaded it...i don`t have that many plugins for it tho because i can`t understand how to program in it....i see how the device chain works ie...each device running to the master output but how the hell do you enter the notes....???? the demo songs sound great i just don`t understand the format for programming the damned thing....maybe in the new version someone should come up with a visual keyboard type thing where you can use your mouse to enter the notes so you can see what you`re doing better....

The old version is tracker style for the note programming
In each machine you have patterns and in those patterns you can automate envelopes for effects, and the notes. Try reading the help file that comes with Buzz, it should get you started in 5-10 minutes, it helped me
The newerversion is to have a piano roll (but a vertical one instead of a horizontal one, shouldn't be too different) but that part is still in the works

HotKey has reprogrammed the whole program again from scratch. Starting all over did solve some limitations: BUZZle now has a new rendering engine that allows subticks, multiple masters, native peer connections, sections and labels in sequence. He is now concentrating on the engine, the new GUI will be a matter of Python scritping and will be a whole seperate part, which, if I'm correct, will allow for the creation of different GUI's which might be very intresting!

More recent news:
quote: |
BUZZle's internals are getting more and more powerful. It's slowly time for some Python Open-Source job!
Now it's time for all you ambitious Python Script coders: BUZZle needs GUI...! As far as I heard from all of you: We all first want some old-school pattern editor/sequence editor...
Information for coders:
* Use wxPython for GUI access. Try a customized wx.Grid as pattern editor for example...
* At the moment I just need "dead" GUI examples (standalone .py-files) that are not connected to any data sets. When you need data (e.g. pattern data), just add some comments like
#buzzle.get_pattern_data(...)
as wildcards. In a later alpha state you will have access to all data via the module named "buzzle".
* Same goes for callbacks (e.g. OnTick, OnPatternChanged, OnInit, ...) - just declare some, they will be called by the host as soon as the API has been fully declared.
* Who will try some OpenGL
...? |
Ok, so if you're a programmer and willing to contribute to this great project, go to www.buzzle.de

Well, the intention is for several people to make different GUI's so the user can descide which he likes best, but to start with, a standard interface like we know from the previous versions would be good for testing...
A new update
quote: |
XML export, Python interaction Though Lazarus has some limitations with Variants I finally connected methods/variables of the BUZZle engine to corresponding ones inside the Python engine * GUI development can start off now! * XML importer / exporter mainly working, next would be BMX2XML and XML2BMX functionality... |

And yet another update

XML done BUZZle can load from / save to XML (no wavetable and machineCustomData, yet). Minor updates to the structure will follow... * You can create and contribute your own GUI ideas! See dev-section. |

BUZZle uses 3 technologies that are not supported in current environment yet: 1.) FPC 2.0.0 variants 2.) FPC 2.0.0 IDispatcher 3.) W3C Binary XML conform components * All three are features that are soon to be implemented (See freepascal.org as well as the W3C consortium Binary-XML recommendations) * BUZZle at the ravages of time...
