Hey guys,
So, I've been studying in Florence as some of you may know. My spring break runs March 6-15.
So far my schedule is as follows:
Friday March 6- Amsterdam
Sunday or Monday- Edinburgh, stay for two or three days and take day trips
Northern Wales, castles.
Friday night- London
Sunday night- return to Florence.
I want to see a lot of Gothic architecture, some cathedrals and castles. I don't know a ton about the UK so I'd appreciate any tips on day trips to make, types of food to try, etc!
Also, if anyone knows some good DnB shows around that time let me know.
Thanks!

I have no plans for Edinburgh yet- it looks really sweet though so we'll just be staying three days or so and the activities are up in the air. Also if you know any good restaurants...

what sort of food do you want? I think the city has pretty much everything
You want scottish quisine?? I can give you the name of some good places. I also know a few interesting ethnic restaurants - sudanese, brazilian are two that are pretty awesome.

I definitely want to try Scottish food and the Sudanese place sounds intriguing.

The sudanse place is actually one of my favourite restaurants. It's called the 'nile cafe' on chapel street and it's situated just of nicholson street, one of the main student areas of the city (the university of edinburgh being just nearby). I guess it's about 15-20mins walk from the city centre (princes street). The serve an amazing marinated fried liver dish called 'kibdeh' and the most awesome fish - the black tilapia nile river fish. It's quite pricey but its worth it!
As for scottish food, there's lots of really nice restaurants as you can imagine and unlike other cities most of them in what's pretty much the main tourist areas are still very good. My advice is to start at the top of the Royal Mile and wander down and find one that takes your fancy. Get yourself a haggis with, potato & turnips, followed with some scottish cheese & oatcakes all washed down with a few glasses of whisky
The scots also do great seafood - salmon, lobster, smoked haddock and great meat and game - aberdeen angus beef, venison, grouse, pheasant, partdrige, wood pigeon. You also should have a nice big slab of black pudding

My local chippy sells this northern delicacy:
deep fried donner meat pizza. Available for delivery with your favourite bottle of scotch.

What type of beer would you recommend? I'm not much of a connoisseur, I'm from the States.
American beer is like having sex in a canoe...
...it's fucking close to water!

ha, yeah I think that's probably the best advice, there's too many to list so just try as many as possible!
Be sure sure to avoid urine-like lager such as carling, fosters, carlsberg, castlemaine etc etc and get yourself a pint of something decent
you can usually tell by the colour - if it looks like piss ..it probably tastes like it too
