aight aight. Haven't stopped by in some time. As my musical direction has taken a turn. but i know that everyone on here is really helpful so i turned to you guys!
Can anyone recommend some Vsts or sample packs where i can get some really nice piano sounds and string samples.
I am also interested in finding some new filters & distortions.
as for filters right now i currently have, Camelphat, camel space, PSP sumptin, and the general stock plugins that came with cubase sx3.

DSK Strings is AWSOME, free, and sample based.
Ravity does ok strings and piano
StringSynth is free as well
MDA Piano works, if you use the free PSP PianoVerb.
Lounge Lizard 2 does amazing Electric piano.
har to find good piano, i preffer loung lizard though.
most other sampled based stuff i find takes up too much to use in a song...

Edirol Orchestral - the must for strings and all kinds of classical instruments.
The piano of 4front is great, too, as recommended already by others.

edirol is pretty stable for sample suite. i just hate it cuz it uses a lot of disk space and gets more unstable then processor instruments like synths when you got a lot going on.

not really, i just never read past piano and strings. not much else when it comes to dist and filter plugs other then the free filter that ROCKS the Ohms Fromage which is such a fantastic filter, that does tuned to notes filtering, smooth anti-aliased filter movments, even a weird but evol sounding comb filtering. it's called "evol" setting i think but it's cool. it's one fo the few good sounding comb filters i've heard.
there full version of the filter the quadrafromage, used by guys like NIN and stuff, but I found it used too much CPU and was really a mind fuck t use. Fromage is simple but a bit odd to work with giving a nice organic sound.
and then distortions are harder to find, but most generic over drive and stuff mixed with the PSP saturator or PSP Warmafier help a lot to give depth to some bad sounding distoritons.... i dunno, i use Blood Overdrive relgiously. almost every overdrive is the same... it's all about wet/dry filter. hope i don't get flamed for that, but as long as i got an overdrive, I got what I need.

for fruity loops, you can get Soundfonts, they can be good low cpu sources for strgins and pianos.
at the very LEAST, i use the FFVII one, so it's this cool semi-retro synth sound.
