soundcards are FTW if you want to build robots that can shoot sound lazers. like that would rock, i suggest getting an Emu, or something with the DSP in it, soy uo can rock Virus like applications. eitehr that or get an MBox.

I just want to be able to run atleast 16 midi channels running different VSTi's without my soundcard glitchin. It seems that it is my soundcard mem, cause I disable 1 of the channels and its fine, and then I turn it back on and it starts gltiching. Plus, my physical comp mem is only at like 60%cpusage so I know thats not it.
check the frequency spectrum it can handle , and if it works on firewire or not ! , and go for a good one , no need for a shit soundcard who dies after a year
, price: 300 euro (musicstore.de) check the site and see if u like something then post it here
i'm using the m-audio fast track pro, does the job but i have had a few issues with vista compatibility and a few probs with cubase as well (but thats down to my copy of cubase methinks)
+1 for the RME.
Been rocking the Fireface400 for a while now and no problems what so ever.
My friend also bought one recently and reports no problems as well.
We're both rocking the soundcards that the chaps at Steinberg use and I reckon this helps ALOT.
I used to own m-audio, emu 1820m, motu 828mk2 and I must say that nothing compares to the stability of the RME. Rock solid baby!
i use a Saffire LE only difference between LE and original Saffire is a DSP chip for plugins. has 8 outputs and 6 inputs pretty sweet. very stable, sounds crisp and clear.and has the original focusrite preamps. costs around 170 - 180
or u can get a EMU card which is very good
RME cards are very good. well worth the money.
M audio 2.
i think firewire soundcards perform slightly better than usb. but its your choice.
