when you go to add a channel or an effect click on more at the top of the list, then refresh and as long as the vst's are in the fl studio> plugins folder, it'll automatically find em....then you just select em and they'll appear on your list.
i wrote that without looking at fl but im pretty sure its right.....

Options -> File settings -> VST plugins extra search folder
choose the default folder for VSTs. When you install them laters, you choose this folder. This will also be the default folder for all programs that use VSTs. But, this is the folder ONLY for the VST plugin files (which are .dll's)!!
Don't mix it up with the program files of the program which are not put in this location (usually, but you can choose to install them all) and usually request for an installation location.
BTW what Sephiroth wrote will work in the case when you have designated the default VST directory which really holds those VSTs. If not, they will not appear in the list.

You can record sound in FL only if you have ASIO drivers. You can record it through the mixer. You select a mixer channel and select the input (big letters IN).
Then, you click the Mixer channel's record button (looks like a floppy, beneath the channel). It will ask you where to put the file.
After that, you press the master record button (next to play). And voila! It records
PS Be careful, if your channel has effects, your guitar will be recorded with those effects. Solution: input the guitar in a dry channel, route it to FX channel for effects, and when recording, record the dry channel.
