I'm beginning to turn my attention to get some dirty sounding leads. Been viewing loads of tutorials\ interviews etc. wiv dnb producers and it seems that sampling and layering synth sounds is good technique to getting that dirty sound. I'm not sure how I go about sampling a synth sound. For example, do I need to make a sample for every note? and how long should the samples be? I'm using Cubase 4 and Kontakt 3, if anyone with the same shit could give me a heads up on the best way to actually do the sampling that would be cool.
I can't set up synthcatcher in Cubase. I thought it would just need to go as an insert on the synth channel, but when I record the files are silent! Anyone able to give me any help with this?

Synthcatcher is only for use with hardware, as the description says this:
"A simple tool to take some of the work out of multisampling a hardware synth or drum machine. Records one octave of notes (12 samples) with specified velocity / length / release time & names them accordingly".

wierd, thought synthcatcher did same for vst as hardware
right, cheers for your replies on this, but I got it sorted in the end. It was just the midi input part that I had to configure on the VST channel, anyway, all cool now folks.
It is supposed to be one of the best time correction tools on the the market, it shows the patterns/sample keys and lets you change them with time instant correction, but you can only alter the key so much for each sound before it sounds like poo poo. Z
