Hey guys,

I have had this problem for a while now.....

I'm using reason v2.5 and i have a korg microkontroller midi keyboard

Now when i first create a maelstrom, i make a bassline with the keyboard and all is sweet.....when i create a second maelstrom for a new bassline, the midi keyboard automatically connects itself to this second maelstrom and i cant go back and use the keyboard for the first maelstrom i was working on.

I have been told by some other peeps to click on the track that you want to use the keyboard and it should work.....either i'm clicking in the wrong spot or something coz that aint working???

Pleeeese help, i've had this problem for about 4/5 months and i cant figure it out

Ok this is a screenshot from one of the rns files I just compiled the other day for a tutorial on how to make a basic reece using Reason v3+.

I really would suggest converting to Reason 4 mind.
Not just for Thor but for the Combinator and m-class studio tools.

Ok first screenshot is the main Reason window with the piano roll ...
The highlighted track in red "combinator1" is what my midi is currently assigned to.
So just click on any other tracks to assign the midi to them.

Also make sure your midi is setup correctly.
from menu up top of Reason: Edit > Preferences > Keyboards and Control Surfaces.

I know I'm using Reason 4 but pretty much the layout and graphics are same in each version.

Also the site on my banner has tutorials or will have when I re-add them as it's a new site due to my last one getting fucked last week.

And also: http://174bpm.co.uk is full of Reason users, patches & tutorials.

eZ.

Aye nice one.

You'll be needing a minimum of 1GB Ram for Reason 4 to run ok.

But at least 2GB if you working on projects involving loads of combinators and samplers.

Even more can help.

I have 6GB give or take when I plug my hacked flash drive thingy.

eZ ! Huh Big Grin

Well me & Jimmy are men made of combinators Ketan you know that !!!

Should pick your collab partners better.

BTW Jimmy was asking after ya last night to maybe pass on the shit he's got so far.

Maybe that is.

Said he's getting attached to it ! Huh Big Grin

Might keep it for himself !!! Tongue

Lmao.

I don't care if I went offtopic so don't bloody say it !

Grade A' ...

(your laptop is vista no Ketz !? - if it is then all you need is a usb stick and to follow my tut over at 174 for hacking it and tricking the laptop into thinking it's direct RAM.)

ok to go even further Offtopic i do think the Combinator is a great device for storing ur complex set ups, but as you only have 4 knobs its not enough control for me, anything i make in a combi, or patch loaded in a combi i always export them and bounce back into an NN-19, just works for me (I do it more for the added control rather than the cpu saving), that said the only problem with bouncing is if ur original sample ain't perfect its a bloody pain to go back tweak it, resample, sample again etc etc!!

well at the moment i'm not looking to upgrade my laptop, i think the next step is to get a nice pc, big phat and heavy.....maybe when i move house and can actually get a cnie lil production room going Big Grin

Grade A!!! Huh Tongue Oot

Woah there a sec mate !!!

I never said nothing about upgrading your bloody laptop.
That's more hassle than it's worth.
I'm talking about a 3-4GB Flash USB PenDrive that you store files on.
You can get them for about 10 quid probably.
You basically change the bios of it via the regedit4 panel on your computer and trick it into thinking it's built in RAM.

Very simple really.

I explained it in this thread HERE

HaHa.

I just remembered something when I re read the bit about storing complex setups ...

Yes you can store a complex setup in a combi for easily loading one into your tune and then you can just right click on the combinator > unconbine and have them in your tune as normal, assign them to midi channels for automation etc ...

Quick way for dumping a setup in anyone of your projects !

Hey Ketz/ Sentinel

Sorry to keep harping on about this but when i click on a channel to assign my midi keyboard, the channel highlights blue, but nothing happens with the keyboard...
Also, the channel that the keyboard is working on, there's this little clock looking thing that sort of registers when i press a key, im guessing i need that clock looking thing on the channel i want to use...

Maybe, the keyboard not set up right in preferences?? Altho i'v followed your diagram at the top of the tread...

If you are using an older version of reason then you do need that clock looking thing (an end if a midi connector much like..... but black) on the track you want to use your keyboard with

Fucking hell and they Reason don't change much with each version !?

I'd say v2 looks bloody ancient, especially the piano roll - Lmao !!!

I'd hurry up, get yourself a nice cheap laptop or PC and wack Reason 4 on it and leave v2 behind to settle down in the dust, crawl up and die !

Plus v3+ has the combinator ! - Best reason device to date imo !

Rv4 + has the arpeg & Thor.

arpeg is much easier than the matrix and Thor is a bloody marvellous combination of all the devices put together to create one bad mo fo synthesizer !
