Hi man, thanks for the feedback on mz track! Glad you r diggin it...as for your track. I quite like the break, has a nice industrial feel to it. Where to start...hmmm...The break is a sample isnt it? I would advice u to cut all the parts of the break and equalize each of them differently cos the kick despretly needs some boosting (now it sounds too flat). You should balance the volume of each break elements so it sounds nice, now it sounds a bit messy (volume going up and down). Another advice for u is to run through some threads here on dnb.be and search for some hints for the begginers or something like this...I am 100% sure there are loads of threads. Focus on equalization some more cos without a proper sound you cant make a decent track. The track is really messy and it hasnt got any structure atm. Sorry, not feeling this...

I can hear what youre aiming at in here but it dont work for a couple of mixdown issues

bass eats up everything when it enters. try and do everything without any compression or limiting. first set every individual level so it doesnt peak which isnt a great deal. the hard part is getting the tune as loud as it can be without clipping which is done by eq-ing individual levels thus making sure none have conflicting frequencies which cause clipping even if every instrument by itself isnt

once you get everything loud enough THEN apply multiband compression or limiting or a little bit of both to boost the volume

as for the tune - the drum pattern actually rocks - too bad cause the bass is overwhelming yet doesnt sound as killing as it should.

heres how you can fix it. first look at the drums frequency range - the portion of the eq spectrum that drums take, THEN look the same for bass. you can do this by using a frequency analyzer. google "pretty fast fft" for some free ones. even at this point you can take a bit of the range by using eq notching. reverbs especially in conjunction with distortion can cause more eq space - which is less for the bass and vice-versa. when you determine the drums eq range try and cut up a bit of space the bass uses using eq notching. remember you want to have the least conflicting frequencies of the bass and beats as possible without both of them sounding flabby or washed out. there are different techniques such as sidechain compression whcih using forced compression makes room for the sidechained instrument.

if you dont understand some of the terms I used then search for those on this very site, it being a huge knowledge base covering pretty much everything needed for a good head-start in producing (and not only) dnb. if youre unable to find answers (a very slim chance) then ask here.

cheers

Yeah, I'd deffo agree with the other reviews. The biggest problem with this is how the volume goes up and down. It completely mashes up the whole thing. I suspect you're using a lot of nasty compression and limiting? It sounds like it's being played in another room. To get this back to how it should be, you'd have to strip out all the effects, adjust the levels and then start again by applying a conservative amount of effects, making sure each sound is crisp, with no unwanted frequencies, and sits in the correct part of the sound spectrum.

The tune itself isn't too bad actually. The beats have a nice groove and without all the compression they could sound good. Bassline is very repetitive tho and very stale. It's basically the same note played over and over. You should deffo think about getting some more melody into it.

Sorry for the harsh review but it's all with the intention of improving your production skills. Happy

Hell yeah, it's probably me, but I like this.
Eqing is bad, sounds are fighting for space, panning with the bass, too repeptitive,...
Please don't make 8 minutes of the same stuff.
But this has a really good rough vibe. Reminds me of Jemone, Metalheadz, Jungle vibes, ...
Work your buildups too. But somehow I think you'll bring us some great shizzle in a couple of months.
Cheers!

At first i thought the track may have had some potential althought the synths were pretty washy and undefined. Further into it apart from a few fills here and there the track doesn't have any notable structure that i could hear. Was definately in need of a proper intro - breakdown and so on. Also the drums sounded very dull and in the background, and the levels were all over the place. There were a couple of drum rolls, one around a minute 30 when the levels relly lost it and it seemed the track was having an epileptic fit. As u said tho ur only starting out so keep at it and try n rectify a few of those probs.
