Audacity is mainly used as an internal sampler to rip internal audio via your desktop/laptop soundcard. Also for cutting/splicing audio. All the pro DAWs should work shouldn't they !? You mean free software? Audacity is great for editing, is free and supports VST plugins. If you think it is too basic I'm afraid you are out of luck because it is the most advanced free audio editor available. But like I said I only real use that for ripping internal audio samples. I prefer to use "cool edit pro" for splicing/cutting. Yes I have the old version still. Neither would any version of FL Studio. Oh well.
