Nice One, like the dnb part. Good & clean sounds
Perhaps the intro (till 2:30) is somewhat too long, maybe you can give some advance-feeling of the mayhem that is turning loose later on in the intro, or smthing.
The synths are full of a melancholy that remind me of Plaid.
You got some good ideas in there, man.

Thanks man, Im glad you like it. I plan on getting someone to do some verses during the beginning. I actually set out originally to make a hip hop track for someone to flow to, but the keys sounded like it would make great dnb too. So a day later I made version 2, which is actually the second half (dnb part), then Sound Forged them together nicely. Hard to tell huh.
I used FLStudio 4.1, tweaked the FM7 for the reese, the Steinberg Plex and NI Absynth for atmospheres. This is the first time I have used a pre-existing amen loop in my music, but I cut it up with the beatslicer, and it came out soundin real nice.
anyone wanna remix??
What is Plaid?
for inspiration

Yow Phoenix-guy!
I already had the impression that the song was made up from two totally different parts, but hey, they fit allright.
"tweaked the FM7 for the reese" whaddayamean?
Plex: never used it or saw someone use it, but i bet it's really nice
Absynth: just like the potion/drink.... very nice ;-) and addictive
amen-loop + beatslicer: fun, fun, fun!!!!!
plaid = two-third of the late Black Dog, you should check their releases on the Sheffield-based Warp-label

A tweaked FM7 is a Native Instruments FM7 synthesizer (duh) and I used a trance type synth and changed the matrix to get a phatter sound out of it.
I spoze I coulda automated the bpm to go from 90 to 170 but I didn't plan on making a hip-hip to dnb track when I started. I just smoke a bunch of bong rips and phat ideas come naturally
Plex I think is from Steinberg. I found it while searching Kazaa for Vst's. SSSHHHHH. It is unlike any other vst I have ever seen or used but I am sort of new at this. It is about 100megs or bigger i cant remember. Also Edirol Orkestral killer. It too is 100 megs or bigger.
I never heard of Black Dog either. Maybe I know one of the tracks tho. I been listening since 95.
I ll check out the label.
Peace.

But what do you mean by 'reese'?
Definitely check out the label (Aphex TWin, Boards of Canada, Prefuse 73,...)

The bassline used in soooo many drum 'n' bass tunes. It's essentially 2 detuned saw waves with a lowpass filter and distorion on it.
Now, for the track: the beaks are very nicely cut up, and sound good to. A bit too much compression though, you can clearly hear the hihats of the Amen varying volume when there is no kick.
The atmospherics are very nice. The reece would be a bit better when it was a bit harsher imo. It also misses a bit bass.
The sub is very low, and almost unhearable. Maybe EQ it differently, or layer it with the same one one octave up, and bring it a bit more upfront.
Buildup is quite good too. Didn't bore me.
Wops, wrong thread, this is a review for Part II
