I can not get the amen break to sound good once I have quantized it for the life of me. Can anyone give me a proper rex copy of the original break? I have a few from sample packs but they are either re-arranged to shit or they for some reason do not sound as bright as the ones in for example the 101 breaks pack.
ez mate have u got the jungle warfare refills? theres some nice amens in there that i've used loads before, 160 and 260 db Drum n Bass interface refills are wicked as well, i find just some simple processing can bring the brightness out in them touch of eq, sometimes if ur using it as a layer to your main break a bit of highpass does the job..
oh yeah i deal with a lot of different variations of the amen but really u can reprogram that urself eh pretty straight forward in the rex player?

its a bit strange to me that you quantize your hats and not the Kik n Snare... surely you want those on the 16ths, for mixing purposes etc... anyway i like the sound of my whole break to be quantized, which is why I usually quantize the amen break with some sort of groove, so I can do the others with that also. But yeah I suppose I should just extract the groove from the break and use that.
If there's anything I would leave unquantized in the amen it is the hats. They hold the groove together with the ghost snares. The full hit kicks and snares should be quantized fuck hard.

The way I use the amen break nowadays is quite simple - high pass, adjust the filter cut off so it is audible, some compression to the overall break, adjust the ASDR on the rex loop player so its more choppy, cut the low end with EQ of the whole break and use it as a layer with my own kick and snare programmed separately, and all the other bits n bobs layered separately
